Mental Health Awareness Month may be ending, but the conversations we’ve had this month are too important to leave behind.

Mental health doesn’t follow a calendar, and neither should support, compassion, or understanding. Every day is another opportunity to check in on someone you love, speak openly about what you’re feeling, or remind someone that they are not alone.

Let’s continue creating spaces where people feel safe asking for help, sharing their stories, and prioritizing their well-being without fear or judgment. Healing is not linear, and no one should have to navigate it alone.

Our Alumni Spotlight today is Bob P! 💙

Bob’s testimonial truly highlights the power of community, connection, and the lasting support found within the Willingway family. Recovery is possible, and stories like his are a reminder that no one has to walk the journey alone.

Here’s what he had to say about his time at Willingway:

"Willingway got me started on the right path when I needed it most. They helped get the alcohol out of my system, and once I finally accepted that I was an alcoholic, everything began to change.

After inpatient treatment, my family and my counselor at Willingway knew I wasn’t ready to go home yet — even though I thought I was. With the support of my loving wife, my family, and the team at Willingway, I was able to move into the Lodge. There, away from outside influences, I could truly focus on getting myself right. I learned that alcohol wasn’t really the problem — it was my thinking and the choices I was making.

Living at the Lodge gave me the structure I needed. Riding my bike around Statesboro in the middle of summer (whew, it was HOT!) to two meetings a day, plus IOP, OP, and regular counseling sessions, equipped me with the practical tools to live sober one day at a time. I also found real friends there — yes you, you know who you are “J” — and had experiences that I will cherish for the rest of my life.

People often ask me if I liked it there or if I wanted to be there. The honest answer is no — I didn’t want to be there or in that situation at all. But it was exactly what I needed to get on the right path. Through the program, I found my Higher Power, who I call God, and experienced a real spiritual awakening. Today I strive to pass that hope on to anyone willing to listen.

Willingway and the Lodge weren’t a magic pill. Sobriety took real work, daily choices, and support — sometimes including hard boundaries. But because of them, I’m now choosing to be the best man I can be for myself and for the people I love.

Thank you, Willingway."

Today, we pause to remember and honor the courageous service members who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. Their bravery and unwavering commitment to protecting others will always be remembered.

As we gather this Memorial Day, may we reflect with gratitude and pay tribute to those who gave so much for our freedom. Their legacy lives on in the lives they touched and the country they helped protect.

Memorial Day weekend can be a challenging time for many people. For some, it’s the heaviness that comes with remembering and honoring loved ones. For others in recovery, weekends like this can bring triggers, difficult memories, or added pressure in social settings. While gatherings this weekend may involve unhealthy environments, it’s important to remember that protecting your peace and your recovery comes first.

We’re sharing a few safe and sober activities for the weekend as a reminder that there are still meaningful ways to stay connected, reflect, honor loved ones, and care for yourself.

Take things one moment at a time this weekend, you are not alone. ❤️
