Balance is more closely connected to the inner ear than many people realize.

The inner ear plays an important role in the body's balance system, working together with vision and other sensory systems to help the brain understand movement and position.

That’s why a comprehensive balance evaluation can look at much more than hearing alone.

Hearing Doctors offers advanced vestibular diagnostics, including rotary chair testing, at select DMV locations.

It’s a level of balance testing that goes well beyond a basic hearing evaluation.

Bring the ones that DIDNT work.

Sometimes the problem isn't the hearing aid.

A hearing aid may need an adjustment. Programming may need to be verified. Real-ear measurements can show what the devices are actually delivering.

A second-opinion evaluation can help answer a simple question:

Can these hearing aids work better? Bring them in!

The expert audiologists at Hearing Doctors will evaluate them, explain the results, and outline the options.

🎧 Your workout shouldn't cost you your hearing.

Did you know that many spin, HIIT, and group fitness classes blast music at levels over 100 decibels? That is loud enough to cause permanent hearing damage in just 15 minutes. You shouldn't have to choose between crushing your fitness goals and protecting your ears.

Dr. Anzola was featured on Fox 5 to talk about how you can stay safe during your next high-intensity session:
• Wear Hearing Protection: High-fidelity fitness earplugs lower the volume without ruining the beat. It's best to see HearingDoctors to get great protection designed for you.
• Step back: Avoid setting up your station directly next to the studio loudspeakers.
• Track the noise: Use a smartphone app or smartwatch to monitor live sound levels.
• Speak up: Let your instructors or studio management know if the volume feels painfully loud.

It's important to have fun, look good, be cool.... but losing your hearing is not cool! 🦾

Our owner, Dr. Ana Anzola, was featured in Forbes Health this week.

The article looks at new research suggesting hearing aids may help older adults stay socially connected. Dr. Anzola explained the connection: when hearing declines, the brain works harder to fill in the gaps. That constant effort leads to listening fatigue, and over time, to pulling back from conversations.

If conversations have started to feel like work for you or someone you love, a hearing evaluation is a good first step.

Introducing Dr. Julie Jimenez
Hi! I grew up in Montgomery County, Maryland, and received my Bachelor of Science in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology from Towson University where I graduated with Cum Laude honors. I subsequently received my Doctor of Audiology degree from Salus University, located in suburban Philadelphia. My externship/residency was completed at Newport-Mesa Audiology Balance and Ear Institute in Newport Beach, CA where I mainly focused on vestibular diagnostics, vestibular rehabilitation, as well as hearing aids.

I became an audiologist because of my grandmother. She struggled with hearing loss for a large part of her life, and it was challenging to communicate with her from across the globe. Over time, her hearing had drastically declined, and right before she passed away, I told her that I loved her one last time. My grandmother couldn't understand me and could not respond back to me. She ended up passing away without knowing that I loved her more than the world. I was absolutely devastated, and I knew from that moment how important it was for individuals to have the ability to understand their loved ones no matter what is being communicated. And while this was such a heartbreaking experience, I was inspired to become an audiologist and strive to help others as best I can. I look forward to meeting you!

Welcome Dr. Brian Decker
Hello! My name is Brian Decker. I am a Maryland native; received my doctorate from the University of Memphis in Tennessee; and completed my externship at Georgetown University Hospital. My passion for audiology comes from growing up with family members who have hearing difficulties. I wanted to learn more about the underlying problems and the solutions for how to help those who can be impacted in their daily lives by hearing difficulties. When I am not completing a hearing test or have my hands on hearing aids, I enjoy spending time with my wife and friends, exploring new areas/towns, eating absurd amounts of food, and finding the nearest body of water that I can swim in. I look forward to being a local audiologist for the DC Metropolitan area and supporting any person who walks through our Hearing Doctors' door!

Research by Kim et al. looked at the association between migraine sufferers and BPPV in adults.
Their results indicate that migraine appears to be strongly associated with a higher incidence of Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo.

The Vestibular System
The medical term for the part of the inner ear involved with balance is called the vestibular system. The vestibular system is an organ located within the inner ear which relays information to the brain about balance and orientation of the head and body. Balance is a complex interaction which requires input from our vestibular system, in addition to our vision and the sensation from our feet, muscles, and joints. If any one of these systems are not working properly, you will suffer loss of balance.
