Charles Elmer Stewart, Jr., affectionately known to family and friends as “June,” passed away on Tuesday morning, September 29, 2026, at Huntsville Hospital, surrounded by his family following a short illness.
June was born on January 21, 1950, the cherished oldest child of Roberta and Charles E. Stewart, Sr. He graduated from Scottsboro High School before pursuing his interest in the skilled mechanical trades. later earned his certification from Drake Technical College in Huntsville, Alabama. Equipped with those skills, June worked for a period as a mechanic for the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). He later went into the scrap metal business, which he thoroughly enjoyed and found to be an adventure.
June was a lifelong resident of the Fackler community, a place he dearly loved and proudly called home. Some affectionately referred to him as the “unofficial sheriff of Fackler” because he loved driving the roads and keeping up with the happenings throughout the community.
June lived a quiet and unassuming life, rooted in the familiar routines of home, family, daily coffee, and gathering with friends. He found peace in the small, steady moments of everyday life. He enjoyed family gatherings and could always be counted on to keep those who lived away updated on what had been happening back home.
June married Core Lee Edmondson of Scottsboro, Alabama. From their union, five children were born: Charles Lamar Stewart, Christopher Jermaine Stewart, James Kendall Stewart, Warren Barnett Stewart, and Millie Lee April Stewart.
June was preceded in death by his parents, Charles E. Stewart, Sr. and Roberta Stewart, and his wife, Core Lee Edmondson Stewart.
He leaves to cherish his memory of his five children: Charles Lamar Stewart of Scottsboro, Alabama; Christopher Jermaine Stewart (Magi) of Dania Beach, Florida; James Kendall Stewart; Warren Barnett Stewart of Scottsboro, Alabama; and Millie Lee April Stewart.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lillian Stewart, Emma Nunley, Demia Moore, Isla Stewart, Ethan Cruz, and Savannah Cruz. His two precious great-grandchildren are Mason Johnson and Jrue Phillips.
His four brothers are Calvin Lewis (Mary), Joseph Michael (Laurieann), Jimmy Ross (Jamicena), and Robert Dennis.
His four sisters are Brenda Darlene Osborne (Cupid), Aleathea Roberta Walker (Randy), Wanda Lee Wilder, and Anita Wardean Ojo (Nathaniel).
June also leaves to cherish his memory a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, lifelong friends, and members of the Fackler community who knew and loved him.
June’s familiar presence, his daily routines, and his way of keeping up with everyone and everything in Fackler will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and community.
A private graveside burial will be held at a later date for the family at Price Cemetery in Hollywood, Alabama.

A celebration of life will be held 12-2 on October 4, 2026 from the Valley Funeral Home in Stevenson
