James Winifred “Wimp” McAllister age 84 of Stevenson passed away at his home with family by his side. James was the son of the late James Richard and Mildred Viola Cargile McAllister, born August 4, 1941 in Stevenson, AL. He was known for his work as a farrier having started working with harness racing horses at an early age in Ohio and then working on the Russell Stables farm in Stevenson. He had worked at Avondale Mills in Stevenson, Revere Copper and Brass, Morton Thiokol on the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, and Shaw Industry in South Pittsburg be fore retiring to his farm where he enjoyed gardening, raising hay and raising mules and horses. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Shirley Ann McAllister, Mary Chatherine “Kat” Evans, Jackye McAllister Headrick, Aneta McAllister Burton; brothers, Robert E. McAllister, Charles David “Red” McAllister, and Larry Wayne “Buck” McAllister. He is survived by his wife, Lyda Annette McAllister; daughters, Myra Veronica (Lisa Reed) McAllister and Linda Marie; granddaughter, Abby; siblings, Kenneth Richard McAllister of Chattanooga, TN and Joe (Amy) McAllister of Scottsboro; sisters in law, Brenda Kirk McAllister and Joyce Ake McAllister; brother in law, Bill Burton; many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Saturday from 5-8 and the funeral will be 12 PM Sunday May 24, 2026 from the Valley Funeral Home Chapel in Stevenson. Burial will be in the Stevenson City Cemetery with Brandon Evans officiating. Pallbearers will be Pete Guess, Darron Cooper, Ricky Evans, Paul Gibson, Albert McAllister, Ryan Sires, Canyon Gothard, and Eddy Smith.
