One of the most common questions I recieved from people looking into homebirth is "what about the mess?". Here is a picture of a spot that a baby was born on less than hour before I took this picture. It looks exactly the same as it did prior to baby coming! We prepare you with a supply list to protect floors, couches, beds etc. In the rare event we do get a little mess on the floor it isn't a problem because we are champs at cleaning up bodily fluids lol!

I highly recommend Mary Ann's Bradley classes. All of my clients that have done her course have come into labor extremely prepared. And to top it off she is an incredible doula as well!!

Yesterday I had the absolute privilege to assist one of my midwife sisters at her client's beautiful birth. While inspecting the placenta it was discovered baby had a true knot in his cord! This is pretty rare, happening in .3%-2% of pregnancies. A knot is formed when baby is still small enough to move through a loop in the cord, typically between 9 and 12 weeks gestation. They are hard to diagnose as they are rarely seen on ultrasound. Of that .3%-2%, only 10% will result in fetal demise. This is because the umbical cord is an amazing thing! The vessels in the cord that deliver oxygen and nutrients to baby and help remove waste are surrounded by something called Wharton's Jelly. This cushions the vessels helping protect them from compression. Occasionally during labor as the cord is stretched and the knot gets tighter, baby will struggle and that is noticed through baby's heart rate. Sometimes a c-section is warranted if baby is not handling labor well. The baby yesterday sounded absolutely perfect the entire time, which is more often the case. Interestingly they are more common with male babies, and less surprising they are more commin when the umbical cord is long. is only the 2nd true knot I have seen in 11 years!

When your midwife's daughter raises show rabbits and there is a litter of adorable one month old babies, it is imperative they come do a visit at the office! The real question is, who enjoyed them more? The kids, or the student midwife? 🤣🤣🤣
