My vote for manuscript title of the year "We're going bananas! The effectiveness and safety of banana puree as an intervention for improving oral feeding in a level IV NICU"

New research from a level IV NICU suggests we really can “go bananas” for dysphagia care.

In 43 preterm medically complex infants who had not reached full feeds at 42 weeks post menstrual age, adding commercial banana puree to human milk or formula improved oral intake to a median 100% within 7 days vs 50% in those without the intervention.

There were no reported adverse effects or impact on short-term growth or respiratory status.

This pilot study highlights banana puree as a feasible, parent-friendly thickener that may support earlier transition to full PO feeds and discharge readiness, while keeping many infants on human milk.

The late night calls that bleed into the wee morning hours are tiring…but when the sky is painted and mist hangs over the water it makes for a great start to a long day.
Especially when you tuck a fresh baby boy in bed with his mama who was hoping for a new brother to add to her crew and smiled when dad told her it was exactly what she hoped for.
