“That’s it! I’m taking my shruti box and going home.” 📻 I feel like a different person than when I arrived at the Studio today. That happens a lot.
It’s why I brought my shruti box home.
Things often travel back and forth between the Studio and home depending on what I need to support my personal practice. Right now I am looking for ways to support my nervous system. Specifically my parasympathetic nervous system.
The power of sound and vibration invites healing. It can clear space of unwanted energy and your body too.
As I used the shruti box to cleanse the Studio today, I felt the urge to chant with its droning sound. I set it on my lap and could feel its vibration. That’s when I decided to bring it home. It feels like exactly what I need in this moment. 📻
Humming, chanting, and singing are great ways to stimulate your vagus nerve - the longest nerve in your body and the primary component of your parasympathetic nervous system.
The vagus nerve plays a vital role in our health and is the driver behind the “rest and digest” process. It regulates the heart rate and blood pressure. It controls the muscles and glands that help us swallow our food and digest it. It manages inflammation, supports our immune system and so much more.
When vagal tone is low our body has a hard time turning off the fight or flight response which leads to anxiety, poor sleep, and sluggish digestion (to name a few).
Humming, singing and chanting are a great way to improve vagal tone. So the next time you’re feeling low, turn on your favorite song and sing along!
As for me, I’ll be over here playing my shruti box and chanting my cares away. 📻
