Grateful beyond words for our EMS neighbors.

Today, when our service needed support the most, Pafford EMS and NHS EMS stepped up without hesitation. In EMS, we all know that serving our communities takes teamwork—and this was a powerful reminder that we’re stronger when we stand together.

Thank you to the crews and leadership at Pafford and NHS for answering the call, supporting our team, and helping ensure our community continued to receive the care they deserve. Your willingness to help, professionalism, and partnership did not go unnoticed.

We are incredibly thankful for your support and proud to work alongside others who truly understand what it means to serve. EMS is more than a job—it’s a family. 🚑💙

The summer heat is in full swing, but hang in there — only 60 days until fall! September 22 can’t come soon enough 🍂😅. On a serious note, remember to check on your family, friends, neighbors — and your pets — during these hot days.
Know the signs:
• Heat exhaustion: heavy sweating, weakness, cold/clammy skin, fast/weak pulse, nausea, headache, or fainting.
• Heat stroke: hot/dry or damp skin, confusion, rapid/strong pulse, and loss of consciousness — call 911 immediately!
And don’t forget pets can overheat too — make sure they have plenty of shade and fresh water, and never leave them in a parked car.
Stay cool, stay hydrated, and look out for each other (furry friends included)!

With temperatures and humidity expected to soar in the coming weeks, please take extra precautions to stay safe. Drink plenty of water, avoid direct sun during peak afternoon hours, and, if you need to be outside, try to do strenuous work early in the morning or later in the evening. Take breaks in the shade and check on neighbors who may be at risk. Stay cool and stay safe!

🚑 Did you know Adair County EMS covers 573 square miles with just TWO ambulances on duty at a time? Three on Monday and Tuesday (Data shows this is our busiest days)

Our crews work day and night, traveling back roads and remote areas to reach you when it matters most. When one unit is tied up on a call or at the hospital, only one ambulance remains for the entire county.

We’re proud to serve, but we rely on your continued support to keep our community protected and covered. Thank you for standing with Adair County EMS! ❤️🚑

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
From Adair County EMS
To the Citizens of Adair County:
Adair County EMS is fully committed to your health and safety. We want to assure you that, despite the challenges we face, we are doing everything we can to provide timely and reliable emergency medical care to our community.
Our funding primarily comes from patient billing. In addition, we receive important local support: monthly financial contributions from the Adair County Commissioners provide the most consistent and significant local funding we receive. The cities of Stilwell and Westville also contribute, though to a lesser extent. A new utility fee for Stilwell residents has recently been implemented to help sustain EMS services. While we have not yet received those utility funds, we are hopeful they will begin arriving this month.
Despite all these sources, we are still facing financial shortfalls—because operating a professional ambulance service is expensive. Fuel, equipment, training, maintenance, and staffing require substantial funding. When insurance companies do not pay enough—or at all—we must rely on collecting the unpaid balances from those who use the service. This adds further strain and limits our ability to offer competitive wages, especially for Paramedics. As a result, we are not always able to staff Paramedic-level units consistently.
We understand the frustration and concern surrounding the recent hospital closure. It has affected all of us—patients, families, and emergency responders alike. Longer transport times now lead to increased ambulance turnaround and resource demands. But during times like this, we must come together as a community and support each other.
To help meet demand, we’ve added a third ambulance on Mondays and Tuesdays—our busiest days of the week. We’re also excited to share that a brand-new ambulance is on the way, expected to be in service by September 1st. This is a major investment that will strengthen our fleet and improve reliability.
We remain dedicated to protecting and serving every resident of Adair County. Your support, understanding, and trust are critical as we work through these challenges together.
Respectfully,
Lance Selph
