"Burrel Eugene “Red” Maddox, 93, of Gaar Corner, Oklahoma passed away peacefully on July 16, 2026 at the Sulphur Veterans Center. He was born on February 17, 1933 at Gaar Corner to J.C. and Alma Maddox. He married the love of his life Anne Loretta Brennan on April 13, 1962.

He enjoyed visiting with family and friends, telling stories of his youth and proud accomplishments throughout his life. He loved listening to old-time gospel hymns, old country music, bluegrass, and reading Louis L’Amour western novels. Favorite past times consisted of fishing, spending long weekends at Lake Eufaula, and gathering with family and close friends over Thanksgiving for deer hunting in the mountains of Southeastern Oklahoma in tents and campers every year until he was no longer able to because of health. His favorite TV entertainment included watching The Rifleman, Gunsmoke, any western, and cheering on his OKC Thunder, the OU Sooners football team, and the Dallas Cowboys.

If you ever asked him his favorite subject in school it was always baseball. This led to one of his biggest regrets when he was asked to try out for the Ada Herefords minor league baseball team as a left-handed pitcher with an unbelievable curve ball but never did.

He enlisted in the Marine Corps on April 3, 1951 at the young age of 18 with three of his friends during a time of turmoil and war. After basic training and tank school, he was deployed to war in Korea. He was injured in the Korean War earning him the distinguished Purple Heart service award. He always told us many stories about his time of driving a flame throwing tank in the war. There is a book titled the Flame Dragons of the Korean War where he is mentioned as a flame thrower with pictures of him. He worked briefly as a contractor and helped build a dam at a lake in South Dakota after his time in the marines. He returned to Oklahoma to begin his career serving his country in the civilian sector at Tinker Air Force Base where he held many titles such as Military Police and carpenter. He retired in January 1988 after 25 years of faithful and devoted service. In March he was interviewed for the Library of Congress Veteran’s History Project. During this interview he was asked several questions but one that stood out was if you could give any piece of advice what would it be? He responded with “Make the most of it while you got it, don’t bypass anything.”

Gene was a faithful servant of his Lord. He joined Gaar Corner Free Will Baptist Church (now Community Free Will Baptist Church) in 1988 shortly after retiring and moving back to his roots of Gaar Corner. He was ordained as a Deacon at the church on March 6, 1994. He gave of his time to the church unselfishly and always stepped in to help no matter the task.

Gene is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Karen and Fred Parsons, grandson Patrick and wife Sada Parsons, granddaughter Sheri Cagle, and ex grandson-in-law Kenny Cagle. He had five beloved great-grandchildren Braxton Cagle, Kaylee and husband Edward Chavez, Jaymee Parsons, Laycee Parsons, and Zoey Cagle. Most recently he was blessed to be a great-great grandfather to twins Henry and Martha Chavez. He is also survived by cousin Mary Penrod, along with many nieces and nephews. He also had a great step-grandson John and wife Bailey Jones and their three children and a great step-granddaughter Samantha and husband Tanner Byrd with their three children. He is also leaving behind his best friend, a heart-broken girl named Skeeter, his little Chiweenie dog.

Gene is preceded in death by his loving wife Anne of 64 years who has been waiting on him to join her for 32 years; his parents J.C. and Alma Maddox; his siblings John Maddox, Joe Maddox, Frances and husband Brian Taylor; grandson Baby Boy Parsons; son Lowell Hooks; nephew Wesley Maddox; nephew Brian “Junior” Taylor; and many friends.

Our dad, pa, and papa Gene was very much loved and will be greatly missed but know that he is rejoicing in Heaven with Jesus and all the loved ones gone on before him. As he has told us many times, we love him a bushel and a peck with a hug around the neck and we will definitely see you later alligator."

There will be a viewing for family and friends on Wednesday, July 22, 2026 from 4:00-7:00 pm at Dearman Funeral Home (Pickard) in Stratford, Oklahoma.

The memorial service will be held at the Community Free Will Baptist Church in Pickett on Thursday, July 23, 2026 at 2:00 pm with a graveside service following at Midland Cemetery.

In Loving Memory of Callee Reann Ortega Hobson October 6, 2008 – July 15, 2026

"With broken hearts, we announce the passing of Callee Reann Ortega Hobson, who left this world far too soon on July 15, 2026, at the age of 17.

Callee was a beautiful young woman whose smile could brighten any room and whose kind heart touched everyone fortunate enough to know her. Though her time on earth was far too brief, she filled it with love, laughter, determination, and unwavering devotion to those she cherished most.

She was a 2026 graduate of Stratford High School and an active student-athlete who proudly participated in basketball, softball, and cheerleading. Whether she was on the court, the field, or the sidelines, Callee brought enthusiasm, dedication, and a competitive spirit that inspired those around her.

Above every accomplishment, Callee’s greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted wife to Wyatt Hobson and a loving mother to their precious son, Weston. Becoming Weston’s mom was the role she treasured most. Her greatest dream was to be a present, loving mother while building a future that would provide the very best life for him. She had been thoughtfully considering continuing her education in nursing or pursuing a career in aesthetics, excited for the many possibilities that lay ahead. Though those dreams were left unfinished, the love she poured into Weston will remain a lasting part of her legacy.

Our family has always lived by a simple but powerful saying: “Love like Jesus.” Callee didn’t just say those words—she lived them every day. She loved freely, welcomed others without judgment, and showed kindness to people the world often overlooked. She had a heart that made others feel seen, valued, and accepted. That Christ-like love was one of her greatest gifts, and it is the legacy she leaves behind.

Callee is survived by her loving husband, Wyatt Hobson; her beloved son, Weston Hobson; her parents, Chris and Amber Ortega; her sister, Abygaile McLean and husband, Dalton; her brothers, Blake Ortega and Brantt Ortega; along with many grandparents, extended family members, and countless friends whose lives were forever changed by knowing and loving her. She is also survived by her in-laws Cody and Jessica Hobson who loved her deeply. She is proceeded in death by Great Grandfather Danny Ward, Great Grandmother Evelyn Willis, Great grandfather Richard Willis, Grandfather Patrick Ortega, Aunt Kindy Ward, Uncle Rodney Ward, and Great Grandmother Mary belle Herron.

Although her life was tragically cut short, the memories Callee created and the love she shared will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her gentle spirit, beautiful smile, and fierce love for her family will never be forgotten.

She had her whole life ahead of her, but in the years she was given, she taught those around her the true meaning of grace, compassion, and unconditional love. While we grieve the dreams that will never be fulfilled, we take comfort in knowing that her life pointed others to love more deeply, forgive more freely, and love like Jesus. Her memory will forever be carried by those who loved her, and especially by the little boy who will always know just how deeply his mother loved him."

A viewing will be held Sunday night, July 19th, from 6:00PM-10:00PM at DeArman Funeral Home Chapel in Stratford Oklahoma.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, July 20th, at 1:00PM at the Free Will Baptist Church in Stratford Oklahoma.

"Henry Leroy Castino Jr., 63, of Stratford, Oklahoma, passed away on July 1, 2026, in Garvin County.

Henry was born in Ceres, California, to Henry Castino and Frances Castino (Robinson). After earning his high school diploma, he built a career that reflected his strong work ethic and versatility. Throughout his life, he worked as a mechanic, semi truck driver, and ranch hand, earning the respect of those around him for his willingness to tackle any job. Henry was truly a jack of all trades, known for his ability to fix just about anything.

Outside of work, Henry found joy in the simple things in life. He loved spending time fishing, taking drives with his faithful dog, Gus, and working on projects that allowed him to use his hands and mechanical skills. He was happiest when he was outdoors, solving problems, or lending a helping hand.
Henry is survived by his parents, Henry and Frances Castino; his daughters, Amber Musser, Ashley Castino, and Amanda Castino; his grandchildren, Kami Ribeiro, Lexi Castino, and Jacob Castino; his niece, Jayme King; and his great-niece, Karley King.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Tammy Westbrook.

A funeral service to celebrate Henry's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 13, 2026, at DeArman-Pickard Funeral Home in Stratford, Oklahoma.

Henry will be remembered for his hardworking spirit, his mechanical talent, and his love of the outdoors. His memory will live on in the lives he touched and the many lessons he shared through his actions."

"Dixie (Dix) Dean Sumner walked into the presence of the Lord on Saturday June 27, 2026, at his home in Hideaway, Texas, surrounded by four generations of his family. He was born on September 18, 1935, in Slaton, Texas to Ernest Lee and Verda Viva Cowin Sumner. He was the youngest of five children and was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Joann Sumner, Dell Corey and Helen Skaggs.

He was a 1953 graduate of Stratford High School, Stratford Oklahoma. He received a bachelor’s degree in physical education from East Central University in Ada Oklahoma. and a Master of Education from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff Arizona.
Dix was drafted into the Army in 1954, serving two years in Germany where he was an artillery gunman and played Division Level baseball and basketball.

He married Kay Ann Endicott December 22, 1957, in Stratford Oklahoma at the First Baptist Church. A year later they welcomed a daughter Shelly Kay followed by daughter Kimberly Dell and son Kenton Dean.
He loved the outdoors and spent countless hours hunting, fishing, camping, and floating rivers. While living in Montana he enjoyed hunting deer, elk, and pheasant. In Arizona he explored the entire state, often finding areas that few had ever seen. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid bird hunter (mainly quail) always accompanied by one of his beloved britney spaniels and was an impressive marksman. He enjoyed sharing his love of the outdoors with his children, grandchildren, and students. During the summer, his family spent weeks on the Black and Salt Rivers of Arizona floating in the river, swimming and fishing. During the winter there were camping and quail hunting trips in the beautiful deserts of Arizona.
Dix was an exceptional teacher and coach—firm yet patient, and always willing to help students who struggled. When he saw athletic potential, he encouraged both male and female students to develop their abilities, several competing at the college level. As one former student said, “He walked tall and carried a big stick. He was a rough, tough cream puff.” Many of his players viewed him as a mentor and father figure and stayed in touch through the years. One writing, “Coach was a father figure to me. I credit him for all the successes in my life, and I can still hear that strong voice that gave me strength and confidence.” The family has received hundreds of messages describing how “Coach” impacted their lives.
He retired from teaching in 1991 and began the work of establishing the Springbrook Ranch in Stratford Oklahoma where he raised prize winning Bison. In 2008 he sold the ranch and moved to Hideaway Texas to be near his children and young grandchildren.

Dix is survived by his wife of 68 years Kay Ann Endicott Sumner, his brother Jack Sumner of Ardmore, OK., children Shelly Sumner of Lindale TX., Kimberly Dickson of Tyler TX, and Kenton Sumner (Mindy) of Hideaway, TX., grandchildren Christopher Dickson (Macey), Lauren Raute (Kreger), Houston Sumner, Kenli Sumner, and Shae Siddiqui , Great Grandchildren Kaylee Eidson, Theodore Dickson, and Kyra Raute."

A memorial service will be held in Stratford Oklahoma at a later date.

"Mary Ann (Berry) Rogers of Byars, OK passed away on June 29, 2026 at the age of 85. Mary was born on September 14, 1940 in Pauls Valley, OK to Katie Mae (Edwards) and Buford Rumsey Berry. Mary graduated from Vanoss High School in 1958 and began working as a nurse for Dr. Aelmore in Stratford, OK. She married Bob Rogers at the Byars Pentecostal Holiness Church in January 1961 where they were members. They built their home in Byars in 1964 where they raised their family and lived out the rest of their lives. Mary worked as a site manager for Delta Nutrition for 25 years. She found joy in working hard, making people laugh, and spending time with friends and family who loved her dearly. She had an adventurous spirit and loved having fun. Her greatest joys in life were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and they will remember her for her sense of humor and unwavering love and support.

She is survived by her daughter Sherri Prewitt, son Mike Rogers, and son and daughter-in-law Mark and Angela Rogers all of Byars, her grandsons Brandon Rogers and Braden Prewitt and wife Kaylee of Byars, granddaughters Abby Rogers of Shawnee and Hanna Prewitt of Byars, along with great granddaughters Inslee, Adalynn, and Paisley, sisters-in-law Lois Berry and Lavita Berry as well as her beloved nieces and nephews.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband Bob Rogers, granddaughter Brittney Rogers, daughter-in-law Shara Rogers, her parents Katie Mae and Buford Rumsey Berry, her twin brother Jerry Dan Berry, brothers Joe Gail Berry and wife Joyce, Elmer Lee Berry and wife Laura, Buford Ray Berry, and her brother-in-law Ted Rogers."

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM at DeArman Funeral Home in Stratford, OK. Services will be held at Graveside at Byars Cemetery in Byars, OK at 11 AM on Thursday July 2, 2026 with John Paul Sampson officiating.

Roy Gordon Tyler 92 of Stratford, Oklahoma passed away peacefully in his home on June 20, 2026. Born on August 18, 1933 in Konawa, Oklahoma. He married the love of his life Zella on May 31, 1952 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma.
He proudly served in the Army during the Korean War, and was stationed in Germany. Later was Known for Roy Tyler Custom Homes. He and Zella made their home north of Stratford and raised their family, They were members of the Assembly of God. Roy was a loving husband, father, grandfather & great-grandfather.
He will be missed by all who knew him.

Preceded in death by; his son Roy Gene Tyler, parents, Wes and Dorfie (Smith) Tyler. Brothers; Wes (Dub), Burt, Carol, Johnny, and Bob Tyler. Sisters; Emezett (Tyler) Phillips, and Agnes (Tyler) Williams.
Survived by; his wife of 74 years, Zella; his children Debbie Tyler and Randy and Cheri Tyler; his cherished grandchildren James, Tony, Sarah, Jacob, Haddon, Isaiah and great-grandchild Sprigin. Sisters; Gini Story, and Patricia Goins.
Pallbearers; Brett Misenar, Rick Hooper, Dwight McCullar, Peyton Edgmon, Jason O'Neal and Karl Tyler.
Honorary Pallbearers; James, Tony, Jacob, Haddon, Isaiah, and Sprigin Tyler.

Visitation; will be Wednesday June 24, 2026 all day until 7:00 pm in DeArman/Pickard Chapel Stratford, Oklahoma.

Services; will be 10:00 AM Thursday June 25, 2026 in DeArman/Pickard Chapel Stratford, Oklahoma.
