William R. McDonald Funeral Home

William R. McDonald Funeral Home Our funeral home was founded in 1951 by William R. McDonald (better known to many as “Mac”) and his loving wife, Norma Booth-McDonald.

Mac was a graduate of Stratford High School, served in the United States Navy in the South Pacific during World War II and became a licensed Funeral Director in 1950 after attending the Renouard Training School for Embalmers in New York. His loyalty, generosity and dedication to his family, friends and community was unsurpassed and will always be remembered. A life-long resident of Stratford and V

ice President of the funeral home for over 50 years, Norma set the foundation for our business. Every aspect of our funeral home was managed with her remarkable attention to detail and unique wisdom. Norma and Mac purchased the property at 2591 Main Street, Stratford, Connecticut and, after careful planning, opened their doors to serve the community in 1951. Their peaceful, historical building provided families with the serenity and tranquility of a beautiful funeral home. The utmost kindness, compassion and professionalism was extended to everyone who entered their doors. They were a brilliant team who worked side-by-side every day for 36 years until Mac’s passing on February 24, 1987. Norma continued her passion serving her community until the age of 81 when her health no longer allowed her to work. On October 20, 2012 at the age of 91 she entered eternal rest.
