Why Fearful-Avoidants cheat & disclaimer: this is not to excuse their behavior but to give clarity for those frantically seeking a WHY and making it their own fault to fill in the blanks.
It’s because they were terrified of losing you AND terrified of keeping you.
They pull you in to feel safe, then panic when closeness feels unsafe. So they seek proof they matter elsewhere, self-sabotage before you can leave them, and use cheating to escape feelings they never learned to sit with.
Then comes the guilt, shame, spiral, begging, withdrawing. Which is why it’s so confusing — the remorse can be real and the cycle can still repeat.
Their fear explains the pattern. It doesn’t excuse the choice.
Save this for when you start thinking you weren’t “enough” for them.
