The clients who tell me, “I don’t think my trauma was bad enough,” are often the ones carrying the heaviest burden.
Somehow we’ve been taught that trauma has to look dramatic to “count.” That if someone else had it worse, we should just move on.
But that’s not how trauma works.
Trauma isn’t measured by what happened. It’s measured by how your nervous system experienced it.
If you learned to stay small, stay perfect, never ask for help, or always be on guard… your nervous system adapted to survive. Those adaptations may have protected you then, but they can leave you feeling anxious, exhausted, disconnected, or like you’re constantly carrying the weight of the world now.
Therapy isn’t about proving your pain was “bad enough.”
It’s about helping your mind and body realize they don’t have to survive like that anymore.
✨ You don’t have to earn healing.
