Committed to You. ๐ŸŒฟ

Thurston Woods Village, a non-for-profit retirement community now serving Sturgis & Coldwater Communities. Mission Statement:
Inspired by our Faith, we are committed to the well-being of all and nurturing a culture that brings hope and a sense of community. Core Values:
Compassion, Faith, Community, Holistic Service, & Stewardship

At Thurston Woods Village, we have an up-to-

date, beautifully maintained facility. The lovely lawns and gardens are well-kept, with areas of park-like quality, reflecting a worthy heritage and reputation. Our community offers an active lifestyle, gracious living, friendships, healthy activities, and security. The history of this beautiful facility began with Alta Schrock, who envisioned a nursing home to be created in an empty building that was owned by Clifford and Alfred Froh. The suggestion was put into the hearts of the Mennonite Board of Missions in Iowa. They purchased the building and 80 acres of land from the Froh brothers for $1. Many volunteers worked on the building and grounds as extensive remodeling was needed to bring the building up to state code. Finally, in 1953, the old Froh Homestead opened its doors as a nursing home accommodating 35 โ€œguests,โ€ with housing room for eight to ten workers. In addition, 460 acres of farmland were rented and worked by volunteer service workers. Eventually, the need outgrew the facility, and in 1968, the home was moved from the U.S. 12 building into Sturgis. Licensed as Froh Community Home, there was room for 66 residents. In 1976, expansion was completed to allow space for 118 residents. In 1985, Thurston Woods Village incorporated and became a retirement community. A 90-unit home for the aged was added, along with a 33-unit, rent-subsidized apartment complex. In response to the need for independent housing with services, the Village Homes duplexes and Gables apartments project started in 2000 and today consists of 6 apartment buildings (36 apartments) and 15 duplex buildings (30 homes), with room for expansion. The most recent improvements and additional services are the complete renovation of Froh Community Home and a new short-stay rehabilitation wing. Today, Thurston Woods Village serves 300 residents at various levels of care, employs 200 plus individuals, and maintains over 25 buildings on more than 100 acres of land. Thurston Woods Villageโ€™s unique multi-level living options make it stand out from the crowd. The four different living options are:

โ€ข Independent living housing. The Village Homes duplexes and The Gables apartments are set in a quiet, safe neighborhood and offer several financial options, floor plans and services.

โ€ข Assisted living at โ€œThe Villaโ€ includes 24-hour staffing assistance, three meals a day, medication assistance, housekeeping and laundry service.

โ€ข A leader in quality care, Froh Community Home and Rehabilitation is a Five Star skilled care community and has been awarded โ€œOne of Americaโ€™s Top Nursing Homesโ€ for eight consecutive years. The dedicated and skilled clinicians and staff assure your stay with us maximizes your well being and care. Residents enjoy the outstanding activity programs, specialized therapy and restorative service, buffet dining which includes the ability to order meals from menus, and the well known homelike environment. Each semi-private room is equipped with television and a free Wi-Fi service.

โ€ข The Short Stay Rehabilitation Department is staffed with highly trained clinicians who are available seven days a week. We pride ourselves with excellent outcomes, resident satisfaction reports, and low average length of stay. Working with the resident and their significant others, the team immediately upon admission formulates discharge plans and goals. A home assessment and a final discharge meeting assure a safe return home with appropriate services.

โ€ข HUD housing, known as โ€œThe Manor,โ€ must meet HUD income and age guidelines, with rent being based upon income. Thurston Woods Village was founded upon the principal of service and continues this tradition today as a not-for-profit retirement community, associated with Mennonite Health Services. We are also an active member of the community, belonging to several service groups and supporting community events. Stop by Thurston Woods Village or visit our website at www.thurstonwoods.org and see firsthand what we have to offer. At Thurston Woods Village, caring is truly a matter of the heart!

Who's ready to yell BINGO? ๐ŸŽ‰

Every week, our residents gather for one of their favorite traditions - Card Bingo! Complete with the sweetest prize around... candy! ๐Ÿฌ

It is so much more than a game. Bingo keeps the mind sharp, the hands busy, and the laughter flowing. From strategy to fine motor skills, our residents are having a blast while giving their brains a great workout.

They come for the fun, but obviously stay for the candy. ๐Ÿ˜„

Peace and tranquility ๐ŸŒบ

Capturing a moment like this means the world to us, but maybe if you donโ€™t know Michael you wouldnโ€™t know why.

We know choosing the right place for a loved one is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we never take that trust lightly. We believe care is not just a service โ€” it is a commitment to walk alongside your loved one through every season of life.

And we got to witness that change this week.

We have whatโ€™s called a continuum of care, which means that when your loved ones needs change, familiar faces, a warm environment, and a team full of genuine love remain constant. No one gets left behind. No one starts over somewhere new.

That is why moments like these with Michael fill our hearts so completely. Watching him thrive in his new wing, surrounded by music, sunshine, and people who truly cherish him, is exactly what Thurston Woods Village is all about. He is safe. He is at peace. And that means everything to us.

This is why we do what we do. ๐Ÿ’™

๐ŸŒบ๐Ÿ BON VOYAGE BASH! ๐Ÿ๐ŸŒบ

Last Friday, the Nursing Center set sail for the Caribbean - and what a trip it was!

Our Captain was on deck punching passports, hula girls were passing out fresh fruit & cheese platters, and everyone sipped on the most adorable pineapple cups filled with fresh pineapple juice!

No flights, no luggage, just pure tropical FUN - and our residents were absolutely living their best island life!

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the Bon Voyage Bash such a special day. These are the moments that make Thurston Woods Village such a one-of-a-kind place to call home.

Our amazing residents got their hands a little chocolatey and peanut buttery today, and we wouldn't have it any other way! They whipped up a batch of classic Puppy Chow that was delicious.

There's something magical about a recipe this simple bringing so many smiles. Chex cereal, chocolate, peanut butter, powdered sugar... and a whole lot of laughter shared along the way.

These are the moments we treasure most - sweet treats, good company, and memories made together. ๐Ÿค

This week, a few of our amazing Coldwater residents showed their gardening skills and planted flowers, beans, cucumbers, tomatoes, green peppers, onions, blueberries, grapes, and strawberries! ๐Ÿ…๐Ÿซ‘๐Ÿซ๐Ÿ“

Gardening isn't just good for the soul, it nurtures a sense of purpose, sparks cherished memories, and brings the comfort of the familiar in the most beautiful way. Tending to a garden is a reminder that life, in all its seasons, is always growing.

We are SO proud of our residents and the incredible garden they've created together. It's more than plants, its connection, pride, and joy in full bloom. ๐Ÿฉท

What a wonderful way to start the week! ๐Ÿ’› We were so blessed to welcome Mrs. Miller's class from Eastwood Elementary to our nursing center last Monday for a fun morning of bingo and crafts with our residents. The smiles, laughter, and energy these kids brought through our doors were absolutely priceless.

As this is their last week of school, we want to take a moment to shout out all of the incredible teachers from this year who took time out of their busy schedules to bring their students to visit us. These visits mean more than words can express to our residents and staff. The connections made between young hearts and our residents are truly something special.

Thank you, Mrs. Miller, and every teacher who made it happen this year. You are making a difference not just in your classrooms, but in our community. We will miss you over the summer, and we can't wait to see these amazing kids again soon! ๐ŸŽ‰โค๏ธ

We came in with big marshmallows, good intentions, and homemade popcorn over a fire. The popcorn didn't make it. The memories? Those are here to stay. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Our campfire and s'mores event this month was everything - live music, marshmallows golden (and occasionally on fire), and a whole lot of laughter shared around the flames.

Watching everyone sing along, swap stories, and get that sticky s'mores grin on their faces reminded us why this village is truly one of a kind. Burnt popcorn and all!

From our village to yours โ€” wishing everyone a safe, sweet, and absolutely wonderful Memorial Day weekend! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Thank you for being the best community we could ever ask for. ๐Ÿค
