Grateful to attend part of the Virginia Horseshoers Association Keep ‘Em Ringin Scott Collier Memorial Clinic this month at George Washington's Mount Vernon!

Jennifer Horn with Daisy Hill Forge shared her forging talents with creative blacksmith work. Jamie Secoura and Dr Amy Santonastaso from the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine (Go Hokies! 🧡❤️) shared their expertise as a farrier and vet team taking and discussing radiographs, trimming, and doing a venogram of a hind hoof.

Appreciate their time sharing their knowledge and all those that put this event together!🐴🥰

On the trails with EasyCare Inc. Protective Hoofwear Glove and Back Country hoof boots this spring!

I recommend booting or shoeing at least the fronts for support when riding trails known to have rock and varying unfamiliar terrain, especially when going for miles. Both options help prevent abnormal wear and tear and help hooves maintain balance. 🐴

We are definitely in the sloppy season where it does not dry out for long, if at all, between rain and snow. Over the last few weeks I have been trimming lots of frog shedding and finding some areas of thrush in clefts (central sulcus), commissures (grooves along sides of frog), and layers shedding.

Highly recommend picking hooves and disinfecting regularly to help ward off foul smelling crud and infection. Some time in a stall or dry run-in are helpful. There are lots of disinfectants on the market ~ Banixx and iodine are my go-tos. Spring is around the corner! 🐴🤠

Grateful for small hoof boots from EasyCare Inc. Protective Hoofwear! Was out for routine trim in late December for this pony that deals with chronic laminitis. Rx2 therapy hoof boots fitted in August 2024 are still providing comfort and support when needed. 🐴🥰

Had the pleasure of riding this at Lake Point Farm in Suffolk with a few of my Stars and Stripes Drill Team teammates last night! Was beautiful to see the Christmas lights on horseback! It’s on again this evening ~ Saturday 12/13!🐴🎄🌟🥰

One of supporting farms in Suffolk, Lake Point Farm, is hosting a Christmas Light Trail Ride Friday 12/12 and Saturday 12/13 this weekend! 🐴🌟🎄

Their event is open to the public with or without a horse! They will have obstacles in the arena for riders in addition to the trail ride! Parking will be in an open field.

Both EHV-1 webinars from American Association of Equine Practitioners and one from Boehringer Ingelheim I watched last week are very informative. They give excellent advice and suggestions on prevention, biosecurity, and other areas of concern. I encourage anyone in the horse industry to watch 🐴

Adventures at The Virginia Zoo earlier this month involved a zebra pedicure, rhino sighting, and a peak in their medical facility! 🦓🦏

Learned from the zoo, baby rhino Letti had her 2nd birthday this month. I remember seeing her not long after she was born on a previous zebra trim day. Was amazed she’s close in size to the others now!

From the zoo: “When Letti was born she weighed about 100 lbs and now she's more than 2,000 with more growing to do!”
