Is Your Child’s Speech on Track?

Did you know that children don’t learn all their speech sounds at once? Speech development happens gradually, and some sounds take longer to master than others!

Here’s a general guide to speech sound development by age!

A FEW THINGS TO REMEMBER:
✔️ Every child develops at their own pace.
✔️ Speech sound development is gradual, and different sounds emerge at different ages.
✔️ How easily others understand your child matters, too!
✔️ If you have concerns about your child’s speech, a speech-language pathologist can help determine whether an evaluation may be beneficial.

You don’t have to wait and see if your child will simply grow out of a speech concern! Early support can make a difference.

Have questions about your child’s speech sounds? We’re here to help!

Is your child meeting their language milestones?

Every child develops at their own pace, but language milestones can give us helpful clues about how a child is communicating, understanding, and connecting with the world around them.

From those first words around 12- 18 months to telling detailed stories by 4 - 5 years, your child’s language is constantly growing!

Here are a few things to look for along the way!

Remember: Milestones are guidelines, not a pass/fail test. Every child has their own timeline.

If you have questions or concerns about your child’s speech or language development, trust your instincts! Talking with a pediatrician or speech-language pathologist can help you understand what your child needs and whether additional support may be helpful.

Early support can make a big difference and there’s no need to “wait and see” when you have concerns!

Save this post as your little one grows, and share it with another parent who might find it helpful!

Underneath all the giggling, climbing, launching, and throwing balls at each other, kids may be working on:

Body awareness
Strength & coordination
Balance
Motor planning
Visual-motor skills
Sensory processing
Confidence with movement
And so much more!

The best part? Kids don’t have to know they’re working on their goals!

To them, it’s play.

To their OT, it’s an opportunity to help them build skills, explore movement, regulate their bodies, and try something new.

🎉 BIG NEWS FROM THE GYM! 🎉

We’ve expanded! 🥳

Our therapy gym has officially grown, and we couldn’t be more excited to have more space for more movement, more play, and more possibilities!

With our expanded gym space, our therapists have even more room to help kiddos:

Build strength and coordination
Work on balance and body awareness
Explore sensory input and regulation
Practice motor planning and functional skills
Challenge themselves in new ways
And, of course… HAVE FUN!

From swings and climbing to jumping, crashing, balancing, and everything in between, movement is more than just play. It can be an important part of helping children develop the skills they use every day.

We’re so excited to continue creating a space where kids can move, explore, grow, and feel successful.

Come check out our new space! 👋

Calling all homeschool families!

Homeschooling gives families the freedom to create an education that works beautifully for their child… but sometimes you may wonder, “Is this something they’ll grow out of, or should I have them evaluated?”

That’s where we can help!

At Speech and Motion Therapy, we’re happy to provide educational information, answer questions, and talk with parents about developmental concerns and when an evaluation may be appropriate.

We support homeschool students with speech & language, occupational therapy, fine motor skills, handwriting, sensory processing, social skills, and more.

No pressure. No judgment. Just information!

If you’re a homeschooling family or know one, grab one of our cards/ save this flyer and keep us in your resource folder!

We’d love to be a resource for your family.
