There is an old belief that strength training is not for women as it leads to only weight gain and a “bulky look,” but this is NOT completely true.
Here are a few myths that are common about women and strength training:

✨Myth #1: Weightlifting causes women to “look bulky”

As you gain more muscle in your body, you will stay the same weight, or gain lean muscle weight, or even look slimmer than before as muscle takes up less space in your body than fat

🏋️‍♂️Weightlifting creates a slim and fit look that will make you feel and look great

✨Myth #2: Lifting huge and heavy is required

🏋️‍♂️Studies show that strength and muscle gain happen with either training style- heavy lifting with low reps or low weights with high reps

🏋️‍♂️Lift weight at whatever amount of weight you are comfortable, it doesn’t have to be an unbelievable heavy weight

✨Myth #3: You can be too old to weight train

🏋️‍♂️Gradual loss of muscle mass starts at age of 35 for most women, but this isn’t due to aging, it is due to inactivity

🏋️‍♂️Several research articles reveal that resistance training is the best way to reverse and even prevent the loss of muscle mass for older adults

If we haven’t met yet, here’s a little about me.

I’m Patty Martin, a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, and I help women achieve healthy, sustainable weight loss while learning how to truly feel good in their bodies again.

I didn’t choose this career by accident.

My passion for nutrition began at a very young age through my own struggles with weight and body image. I still remember being told as a child that I needed to wear “husky-sized” pants. Even at that age, those words affected me deeply and shaped how I viewed myself.

As I got older, my interest in nutrition, exercise, and wellness only grew stronger. In high school, I became determined to better understand how food affects the body, energy, confidence, and overall health. Through learning healthier habits myself, I discovered how empowering it felt to take control of my health—and I naturally began helping friends and others around me do the same.

That passion eventually led me to become a registered dietitian.
Over the past 21+ years through my private practice, I’ve had the privilege of helping women improve their health, lose weight, build confidence, and create healthier lifestyles without guilt, confusion, or extreme restriction.

What I’ve learned after working with so many women is this:
Weight loss is not just about food.
It’s about mindset, self-respect, consistency, and learning how to care for yourself in a sustainable way.

When women begin focusing on self-love, structure, meal planning, movement, and healthier daily habits, true transformation begins to happen—not just physically, but emotionally too.

That’s why I’m so passionate about helping women reach their most natural, healthy weight so they can feel confident, energized, and empowered in their everyday lives.

The patients I see truly transform their health don’t all eat the same way or follow the same protocol.

Some go plant-based, some do the opposite. Some exercise every day, some start with a ten minute walk. But they all have one thing in common: they decide they are worth fighting for.

That decision changes everything — how you eat, how you sleep, how you talk to yourself when you slip up, how you respond when life gets hard and the old habits start calling. It’s something quieter and more fundamental than that.

We can debate macros and sleep schedules and the best time to take your supplements. But none of that will stick if somewhere underneath it all, you don’t believe you deserve to feel good.

You can’t heal a body you don’t think is worth healing.

So if you’ve been putting yourself last — telling yourself you’ll start when things slow down, when it’s a new week or month or year, when work settles… I want you to hear this: there is no better time, and you are worth the effort. Right now, exactly as you are.
