📢📢 UPDATE: We have them covered for tonight and a loaner car secured!

Tomorrow it looks like one of the veterans places will be able to follow up and help.

❗️HELP NEEDED❗️
We have a disabled veteran and her elderly mother who are having some major challenges.

A few weeks ago we asked for help with housing ideas. They have been approved for an apartment but waiting on paperwork to be finalized.

We were able to help them get 2 weeks of shelter but that has now ran out.

They were staying in their car, but they were in a car accident last night and now they have lost their car.

If anyone has resources, an extra vehicle they can use or any ideas to help please reach out to us. We are trying to find them a safe place to be tonight but they are now living day to day with no idea of where they will be staying until this apartment let's them in.

💙 COMMUNITY UPDATE 💙
GOOD NEWS TO SHARE!!

Our Veteran and her mother have been accepted into an apartment! Now we are just waiting on the final paperwork to be finalized!

In the meantime, thanks to the incredible generosity of a community member, this mother and daughter have a safe, rented space to stay for the next week while everything is completed!

This is what a community looks like, neighbors stepping up to make sure no one falls through the cracks.

Thank you to everyone who shared, sent info, prayed, and offered to help. And a special thank you to the donor who made this week of safety and peace possible 💙

We will keep you posted when she gets those keys! 🔑🏠

Bring your bag or grab one of ours and STUFF it full of clothing and goodies from our Free Store for one low price! We need to make room for new donations coming in, so come help us clear the racks!

Plus, we will have hot Soup & Sandwiches available for a small cost, perfect for a lunch stop while you shop! Or message us if you are interested in buying a quart of soup to take to home.

Every dollar from the bags and lunch helps us raise money to support what we do right here in Sullivan, keeping our pantry stocked, our free store open, and our recovery resources available for our neighbors.

💜 THIS IS WHY YOUR SUPPORT MATTERS 💜

We want to share what your support and a recent grant has made possible.

Every week, neighbors walk through our doors at Recovery Cafe Sullivan & Adam's House Of Hope facing an emergency they never saw coming.

Recently, it was a disabled veteran and her 75-year-old mother. They came to us because they can no longer safely stay in their home. The condition of the home has made it unsafe. No one should have to live like that, especially not a veteran who served our country and her elderly momma.

Because of the emergency assistance funding from United Way of the Wabash Valley, we were able to get them into a hotel for 4 nights. Four nights of safety. Four nights of not sleeping in a car. Four nights to breathe and figure out next steps.

But 4 nights isn’t a solution. And this is where we need our community.
What they need now is a safe, low-income apartment. We have been searching, calling, driving, trying to find a place with a small, affordable deposit that we can help cover to get them somewhere stable and safe. They both receive a small monthly income and can afford rent once they are able to secure a place.

The need for safe, affordable housing in Sullivan County is so real, and we are seeing families in similar situations almost weekly.

📢 HOW YOU CAN HELP:
1. Do you know of housing? Please comment below any and all subsidized housing, low-income apartments, or landlords in Sullivan, Shelburn, Dugger and surrounding areas that accept low income or have low deposits. We want to build a full resource list to help this family and the many others who come to us in crisis.

2. Help us fill the gap. Our United Way grant allowed us to get them safe for now, but the deposit and first month’s rent is what will keep them safe long term. If you would like to donate toward emergency housing assistance for this family and others, you can donate directly to us. Every dollar goes right back into supporting those who come to us in need.

To our veteran and her mom, we see you. You are not alone.

And to United Way of the Wabash Valley, thank you for trusting us to be the hands and feet for our neighbors when emergency strikes. This grant is doing real, immediate good.
