MBSH - Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital

MBSH - Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital “I started on the Hospital’s Board in 1959. We went to the people of Sullivan and surrounding towns asking for donations. The response was astounding.

At that time, we knew we had a need for a hospital, we had lots of determination and a very generous community behind us. People from across the community – many who could hardly afford it – gave … and then gave some more. Some even contributed a month’s worth of their wages so we could match the bond issue by the Town Council. Together with the town, we raised $500,000 and the hospital opened in

1962. And we became the first town of our size in Missouri to have a hospital. The wonderful story of this hospital continued in 1983, when we became part of Missouri Baptist Medical Center in St. Louis – gaining access to their specialists. Then in 1994, we became part of BJC HealthCare. Since that time, BJC has literally rebuilt the hospital, adding an expanded emergency room in 2003, new patient rooms and surgical areas in 2007 and a new maternity department in 2008. As a result, today, we have one of the best community hospitals in Missouri.”
— Joe Owens, Chairman of Trustees

On May 29, Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital celebrated the grand opening and ribbon cutting of its new Medical Office Building! 🎉 ✂️

Hospital leaders, caregivers, and members of the Sullivan community gathered to celebrate the new facility, which expands primary care, pediatric, and outpatient offerings for patients across the region.

“This new facility strengthens our ability to provide exceptional care while supporting the work of our caregivers every day,” said Lisa Lochner, president of Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital. “It’s an investment in our patients, our teams, and the long-term health of the communities we serve.”

The new two-story building was thoughtfully designed to enhance the patient experience, support caregivers, and provide modern clinical spaces that promote high-quality care.

Thank you to our caregivers, leaders, and support teams who made this vision a reality as we continue bringing compassionate, high-quality care closer to home. 💙

On Tuesdays in June (the 2nd, 9th, 16th, and 30th) from 10–11 a.m., community members are invited to join Walking in Grief, a supportive group walk along the paved trails at Sullivan City Lake Park.

Led by Lilly, a coordinator with BJC Hospice, the group meets at the Sullivan City Lake Pavilion. During the walk, participants have the opportunity to share their experiences, talk about their loss, and connect with others who are also navigating grief.

This program is open to anyone in the community who is grieving the loss of a loved one, including those who BJC Hospice has served. It is designed to offer a unique, supportive space for individuals of all ages—including families—to come together outdoors, honor their grief, and find comfort in shared experiences.

“We know that physical movement and time spent in nature can be deeply healing,” said Lilly. “My hope is that participants will gain helpful coping tools and be reminded that they do not have to walk alone in their grief.”

“The walks are casual and welcoming,” Lilly added. “Participants are invited to share their story or simply walk alongside others, knowing they are supported and cared for.”

No pre-registration is required. For more information, please contact Lilly at 573-205-2425.
