A new volunteer initiative is bringing added comfort to infusion patients at WVU Medicine Summersville Regional Medical Center.

Stefanie Sadler and Carol Caplinger have begun creating handmade blankets for patients during treatment. Community members may support the effort by crocheting, knitting, sewing, or donating yarn and other supplies. Crocheted hats are also welcome.

Each handmade item offers warmth, encouragement, and a reminder that patients and families are supported throughout their care.

When families in Lewis County needed help following recent flooding, team members from WVU Medicine Summersville Regional Medical Center and WVU Medicine Braxton County Memorial Hospital stepped in.

Working alongside Samaritan’s Purse, employees spent the day helping families remove damaged flooring and belongings, clear debris, and begin the cleanup process at three homes.

One of those homes belonged to a fellow WVU Medicine employee, making the day an especially meaningful reminder of the connections that extend across our health system and our communities.

We are proud of the employees who gave their time and energy to help neighbors begin moving forward.

Discharge instructions help you understand how to continue your recovery after leaving the hospital or completing a procedure.

Before you leave, review any instructions about medications, activity restrictions, follow-up appointments, and symptoms that should prompt a call to your healthcare provider.

Ask questions about anything that is unclear and keep the instructions somewhere they can be easily referenced at home.

Work continues on the WVU Medicine Summersville Regional Medical Center Cancer Center as the project nears completion.

Recent progress has included metal framing, ductwork installation, demolition in the Materials Management area, and gypsum finishing. Upcoming work includes continued framing and gypsum installation, along with excavation for the canopy foundations.

Each phase of construction brings SRMC another step closer to expanding access to high-quality cancer care across the region. We look forward to continuing to share updates as the project takes shape and to celebrating the Cancer Center’s grand opening on November 10th.
