We’re excited to welcome Nicholas County as one of the newest communities joining Wild, Wonderful & Healthy West Virginia.

The work begins locally, bringing together community members, organizations, and leaders to identify the opportunities that matter most to the people who live there.

From those conversations come stronger partnerships to develop and implement strategies that can help create lasting improvements in health and well-being. As Nicholas County begins this process, we're looking forward to seeing the vision its community creates for the future.

The Nicholas County Health Department cares about our four legged furry friends too. This cutie was rescued from under the wheel well of our sanitarians vehicle and now is safe, clean, and headed to a loving home.

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT: Arran Adams—Environmental Specialist/Threat Preparedness.

Arran celebrates a year on board at the NCHD wearing multiple hats to keep things rolling. He specializes in septic installations and development, and even started a Septic 101 class for the public to learn more about Septic systems. Most recently, he wrote and received the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) grant to strengthen our local environmental health program. Arran continues to create innovative approaches to keep our community safe, including a Spanish restaurant inspection guide for our some of local restaurants. We appreciate his willingness to think creatively to solve problems and to keep us laughing when things might be stressful. We’re so happy to have Arran advocating for community’s safety.

Appalachians are a loving, giving, and supportive group of folks; neighbors helping neighbors. SOZO Recovery House, Inc. fulfills this for our community with its recent collection and donation of hygiene supplies for our local vulnerable populations served during mobile outreach and supporting the hygiene closets at our schools. Thank you for loving your neighbors!

Having a clean community helps to promote a healthy community!

Hey Nicholas County!! Did you know we now have a Litter Control Officer to help get our county cleaned up?

WE SURE DO and now it's time for you to do YOUR part!
We need YOU to report litter concerns in the county so we can get them taken care of the right way.

Stop by the landfill, send us an email, or message us here on Facebook and we'll get the info to the right place. You can remain anonymous in the report and it only takes a minute.
