Mr. Jimmy B. Palmour, age 89 of the Spring Creek Community, passed away Friday, August 7, 2026 at his residence.

Mr. Palmour was born in Summerville, Georgia on May 5, 1937, son of the late Samuel Grady Palmour and Georgia Weaver Palmour. He was an ordained deacon, a member of the Pennville Baptist Church and had been attending the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Palmour was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served during peace time between the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was an electrician by trade, working for the TVA and Teems Electric, and was a member of the IBEW Local 175 in Chattanooga. Mr. Palmour was a member of the former Old Time Picking and Grinning Group, the Serenaders Band and a former member of the Wildlife Association and the Liar’s Table at Jim’s Restaurant. He enjoyed being out on his John Deere tractor and spending time with his family.

In addition to his family, Mr. Palmour was preceded in death by two sisters, Maxine Palmour and Frances Palmour.

Mr. Palmour is survived by his wife, Judy Palmour; son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Beth Palmour; daughter, Georgianna Palmour; brother and sister-in-law, Grady and Ann Palmour; grandson, Christopher Ward; and nephews, Sam Palmour, Mack Palmour and Cooper Palmour.

Funeral Services for Mr. Palmour will be held Sunday, August 9, 2026 at 3:00 P.M. in the chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. James Baird and Rev. David Romine officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers and should assemble at Coffman Funeral Home at 2:30 P.M. Sunday: John Weaver, Rickey Broome, D.J. Driver, Tracy McWhorter, Sheriff Mark Schrader and Scott Coley.

The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 1:00 P.M. until the service hour at the Coffman Funeral Home.

The family wishes to express their thanks and gratitude to Betina, Kim and Lisa of Heyman Hospice for their excellent care and compassion shown during the illness of Mr. Palmour.

Mr. Jonathan Clifford “Johnny” Gregg, age 82 of Cartersville, Georgia passed away Sunday, August 2, 2026 at his residence.

Mr. Gregg was born in Subligna, Georgia on March 26, 1944, son of the late Milburn Hugh Gregg and Myrtle Carrie Houser Gregg. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during the Vietnam War and was retired from Lockheed. Mr. Gregg was an avid model train enthusiast and had built many train and city models. He also enjoyed woodworking, where he built cabinets and furniture.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Gregg was preceded in death by his son, Larry Gregg; two brothers, W.B. Scott and Lamar Gregg; and a brother-in-law, Tony Scott.

Mr. Gregg is survived by his wife, Karen Gregg; sister, Sue Scott; nieces and nephews, Jeff and Heather Coley, Jamie and Miranda Coley, Jerri Lynn and Bryan Stinson, Donna and Vick Sykes, Danny Scott and Ricky and Debbie Scott; and a number of additional nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.

Memorial Inurnment Services for Mr. Gregg will be held Thursday, August 6, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. in the Green Hills Memory Gardens with Rev. Jeff Shaver officiating. The United States Navy will be in charge of Military Funeral Honors.

There will be no formal visitation.

Mr. James Wade Fortner, 68, of Trion, Georgia, passed away on August 1, 2026, in a Rome hospital.

Born on February 20, 1958, in Trion Hospital, Wade was the beloved son of Nadine Henderson Fortner and the late R. Dural Fortner. A proud member of the 1976 graduating class of Chattooga High School, Wade pursued a career as an engineer.

Wade embraced life with style, enjoying the finer things, from driving sports cars to relaxing by the beach. He had a natural talent for landscaping and took pride in cultivating tropical plants. A fan of college football and tennis, Wade's greatest legacy lies in the cherished memories he created with friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his life partner, James “Buddy” Floyd; his father, R. Dural Fortner; and grandparents Tommy and Eva Mae Henderson, along with Leon and Kate Fortner.

Wade is survived by his mother, Nadine Fortner; sister and brother-in-law, Debbie and Daryl Murdock; nieces, Jennifer Cox, Jessica (Adam) Ivey, Rachel Bryan; aunt and uncle, Linda Kay and Waymon Fincher; cousin, Michael David (Jennifer) Chastain; and many great-nephews, great-niece, additional family members, and friends.

In accordance with Wade’s wishes, he will be cremated, with no formal service planned at this time.

Wade will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him.

Mr. John Wayne Jennings, Jr., age 56 of Gaylesville, Alabama passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2026 in a Huntsville hospital.

Mr. Jennings was born in Trion, Georgia on April 12, 1970, son of John Wayne Jennings, Sr. and the late Patricia Ann Long Jennings. He was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church and was formerly employed in the Steel Construction Industry. Mr. Jennings had a great sense of humor and was always trying to make others laugh. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and being around children; but his favorite activity was spending time with his family, who fondly called him the “Man of Steel.”

In addition to his mother, Mr. Jennings was preceded in death by a son, Walter Cavin Reynolds and a grandson, Andrew Jennings.

Mr. Jennings is survived by a daughter, Amber Jennings; sons, John David Jennings, Jeffrey Jennings, Justin Jennings and Bradley Reynolds; father, Wayne Jennings; sisters, Marie Jennings and Melissa Jennings; brothers, Billy Jennings, Richard Jennings and Casey Jennings; grandchildren, Kira Wells, Kayne Jennings, Paesleigh Newsome, Jace Jennings, Isabella Jennings, Olivia Jennings and Emerson Jennings; and a number of nieces, nephews and extended famil members.

Mrs. Mary Ellen Dover, age 61 of Trion, Georgia passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at her residence.

Mrs. Dover was born in Punta Gorda, Florida on March 11, 1965, daughter of the late Stanley Zane and Ann Zane. She had worked for several years as a home care giver. Mrs. Dover loved music and loved to dance. She enjoyed art, especially drawing, and was an avid animal lover.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dover was preceded in death by a father-in-law, Marvin Dover.

Mrs. Dover is survived by her husband, Tony Dover; two sons and daughter-in-law, James and Chas Dover and Anthony Silvers; daughters and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Fernando Friday, and Toni Marie Silvers; father-in-law and mother-in-law she considered her parents, Donnie and Martha Brooks; brother-in-law she claimed as her own, Robert Dover and his wife, Martha; sisters and brother-in-law, Ellie Akrey and Carol and Mejia Mendoza; and her grandchildren, Braynson Holloway, Hayden Dover, Drayden Gentry, Avin Gentry, Zane Dover, Taevion Lee, Caleigh Lee, Karissa Wooten, Millie Sandoval, Emerson Dailey, Parker Dailey, Dante Dailey, Aubree Silvers and Aria Silvers.

Mr. David Lavaughn “Jerk” Wooten, age 63 of Summerville passed away Sunday, July 19, 2026 at his residence.

David was born in Rome, Georgia on March 29, 1963, son of the late Jimmy Shropshire and Lucille Vineyard Shropshire. He was a retired plumber and had attended the Pennville Church of Christ. David was an avid music lover, enjoyed playing the acoustic guitar and was in the honor band in high school. He also enjoyed fishing, camping and being outdoors.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by a brother, Clete Shropshire; nieces, Amanda Prestwood and Addie Shropshire and nephews, Corey Thompson and Jonathan Shrospshire.

David is survived by a sister, Angela Flegal; three brothers and sister-in-law, Victor Shropshire, Neil and Hope Shropshire and Tory Shropshire; and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

In accordance with his wishes, David will be cremated and there are no formal plans for a memorial service at this time.

Mr. Benjamin Franklin “Ben” Dunaway, Sr., age 81 of Armuchee, Georgia joined his beloved wife and his Savior on Saturday, July 18, 2026.
A native of Armuchee, Mr. Dunaway was born on February 25, 1945, son of the late Richard Willis “Bill” Dunaway, Sr. and Eddie Mae Rosson Dunaway. He was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and was retired from the Floyd County Board of Education. Mr. Dunaway was a devoted husband and caretaker to his wife, and was a devoted father and grandfather to his family. He had a great sense of humor; enjoyed working, was a state licensed plumber, great electrician and avid gardener, but there was nothing better than spending time with his family. Mr. Dunaway’s love, dedication and care for Becky was a true inspiration to others and a testament to the love and sacrifice of a Christ centered marriage.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Dunaway was preceded in death by his wife, Becky Holcomb Dunaway on July 1, 2026; son, Willis Eugene Dunaway; twin granddaughters, Madeline Grace and Kateline Belle Dunaway; sisters, Ida Lee Dunaway Montgomery and Sara Ann Dunaway Terry; brothers, John Dunaway, Walton “Dugan” Dunaway, Richard Dunaway and Henry Dunaway.

Mr. Dunaway is survived by a son and daughter-n-law, Benji and Shelly Dunaway; grandsons, Mason Dunaway and Benjamin Franklin Dunaway, III; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, William Joe and Judy Holcomb; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Dunaway will be held Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Pastor James Baird and Rev. Greg Montgomery officiating. Interment will follow in the New Armuchee Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Greg Montgomery, Scott Montgomery, Dewey Dunaway, Walton Dunaway, Wayne Dunaway, Kenny Kendall and Dalton Kendall. Mr. Luther David Carroll, known to many as David Carroll, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at the age of 85 in Lafayette Healthcare Center. Born in Summerville, Georgia, on January 20, 1941, David was the cherished son of the late Elzie Carroll and Reva Lingerfelt Hunter.

David’s life was marked by a strong dedication to his community and his country. He served honorably as a veteran of the United States Army, answering the call to duty with courage and integrity. Upon returning home, he continued his service to others through a long and rewarding career at the City of Summerville, where he retired as Superintendent of the Gas Department. David’s entrepreneurial spirit also shone through his many years as the owner and operator of the TV Man, where he was known for his work ethic and his friendly, helpful manner.

An active and devoted member of his community, David held a lifelong commitment to the values and fellowship of the Masonic fraternity. He was a proud member of Alpine Masonic Lodge #211 in Menlo, as well as the Yaarab Shrine Temple in Atlanta. David advanced to the prestigious rank of 32nd Degree Mason in the Scottish Rite, a testament to his dedication and service.

Beyond his professional and community endeavors, David was a man of many passions. He found peace and joy in the outdoors, especially when fishing or deer hunting, and took solace in reading his Bible. These simple pleasures enriched his life and brought him closer to those he loved.

David was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Dorothy Pauline “Dot” Carroll, and his son Phillip Anthony “Tony” Carroll.

He is lovingly remembered and survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Adam and Dasha Carroll; his half-brother, Tim Hunter; his daughter-in-law, Lynda Carroll; grandchildren Taylor (Landon) Barrett and Gabbi (Daniel) Gray; great-grandchildren Collins Barrett and Colbie Gray; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and additional family members who will hold his memory dearly.

The impact of David’s steadfast spirit, generosity, and devotion to family and community will be felt for generations. His legacy lives on in the values he imparted to his children and grandchildren, in the friendships he fostered, and in the lives he touched.

Funeral Services will be held in honor of Mr. Carroll on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Coffman Funeral Home with Chaplain Ronnie Chandler officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery with Military Honors.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Gray, Michael Carmon, Clint Dillard, Landon Barrett, Austin Lea, and Dalton Carmon. Honorary Pallbearers will be the staff of Pruitt Healthcare at Shepherd Hills and Pruitt Hospice.

Mrs. Cathy Colbert Brown, age 64 of the Harrisburg Community in Trion, passed away Friday, July 10, 2026 at her residence.

Mrs. Brown was born in Trion, Georgia on August 11, 1961, daughter of the late D.F. Colbert and Ruth Mae Brimer Crider. She was on the board of Tax Assessors in Chattooga County and had been employed with Baker Realty. Cathy loved her family and was always looking for ways to make memories for the future and tell stories from her past. She would reach out her hand to lift others up with kindness and empathy. Her dedication to her community was built on trust and compassion. Her love will be truly missed.

Mrs. Brown is survived by her husband, Joseph Brown; sons and daughters-in-law, Jesse and Cynthia Jennings and Brandon and Cari Crider; brother, Gary Colbert; Sister, Delores Ringer; grandchildren, Chris Jennings, Justin Jennings, Madysin Crider and Jazmyne Crider; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Rebecca Eugenia “Becky” Holcomb Dunaway, age 76 of Armuchee, passed from this life to her heavenly reward on July 1, 2026.

Mrs. Dunaway was born in Summerville, Georgia on July 22, 2026, daughter of the late William Eugene Holcomb and Jewell Inez Arthur Holcomb. She was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and had served her family as a homemaker. Mrs. Dunaway was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her family and friends. She loved to cook and enjoyed teaching others her skills, and enjoyed collecting anything that had to do with butterflies. Mrs. Dunaway’s life was an inspiration to other because of her mental, physical and emotional strength provided by her Faith and relationship with the Lord.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dunaway was preceded in death by a son, Willis Eugene Dunaway; twin granddaughters, Madeline Grace and Kateline Belle Dunaway; a sister, Linda Terry and a brother, Jimmy Ray Hickman.

Mrs. Dunaway is survived by her husband, Benjamin Franklin Dunaway, Sr.; son and daughter-in-law, Benji and Shelly Dunaway; brother and sister-in-law, William Joe and Judy Holcomb; grandchildren, Mason T.
