The upper cervical spine (C1 & C2) plays an important role in your horse’s head and neck mobility, balance, and overall movement.
Uniquely shaped, C1 and C2 help hold the heavy weight of a horse’s head and can extend, flex, and rotate. Subluxations to these joints can affect the hyoid bone and TMJs to also subluxate.

Overflexed head carriage, head trauma, dental issues, tension on reins/bit, dysfunctional lumbopelvic movement, high hay nets, and much more can contribute to upper cervical subluxations 😉
