From the “scariest day of our lives” to a joyful reunion with the care team who helped make all the difference. 💙

When the baby girl twins, River and Raelyn, arrived two months early, they spent several months in the Level III Neonatal ICU (NICU) at HCA Healthcare Summerville Hospital. Their care team supported the family every step of the way—from teaching them how to hold their 2-pound babies while connected to oxygen to giving them confidence during an incredibly difficult time.

“From the moment we walked into the NICU, we knew our babies were in the best hands,” said parents Erin and Jared. “They cared for our girls like they were their own."

Watch their story and see the heartwarming reunion with members of their Level III care team, including pediatric surgeon Dr. Alexander Soutter and NICU nurses Lauren Intini and Kerry Bloomingburg.

🐝 Congratulations to our BEE Award Winner, Nenita Ford, Patient Care Tech (PCT) on the 3rd floor medical/surgical unit! 🐝

Just as the DAISY cannot survive without the BEE, nurses cannot survive without the outstanding teamwork provided by other healthcare professionals. The BEE Award for Excellence recognizes team members who go beyond exceptional expectations through their skill, compassion, and commitment to our patients.

When a patient's dietary needs made finding the right food challenging after the kitchen had closed, Nenita stepped in to help. She found tea for him that evening and, the next day, personally helped find chicken noodle soup so he could have broth that worked with his liquid diet. His loved one shared that Nenita "definitely went above and beyond."

It's thoughtful acts like these that make a lasting difference in the patient experience. 💛

Please join us in congratulating Nenita and thanking her for the compassion, teamwork, and exceptional care she brings to our patients every day!

If you're expecting a baby, congratulations! 🤰

During this exciting journey, it helps to know about conditions that could affect your health, including placenta accreta spectrum, or PAS. This condition happens when the placenta attaches too deeply into the wall of the uterus, which can lead to serious bleeding during delivery.

Watch as Dr. Robert Cohen, an OB-GYN and medical director of the Placenta Accreta Program for our broader HCA Healthcare network, breaks down what PAS is, who may be at higher risk and why early diagnosis and specialized care matter.

Across HCA Healthcare, caregivers deliver more than 200,000 babies each year, generating insights that help improve outcomes for moms and babies.
Have questions about PAS? Talk with your doctor or schedule an appointment with one of our experts: https://www.tridenthealthsystem.com/physicians.

Every minute matters during a stroke. Fast care can help protect brain function and lower the risk of long-term disability.

That’s why door-to-needle time — or DTN time — is so important. It’s the time it takes a patient with an ischemic stroke to receive clot-busting medication (“needle”) after arriving at the hospital (“door”).

We're proud to be part of HCA Healthcare Healthcare, a leader in stroke care. Our teams follow proven best practices to help patients get safe, high-quality treatment when they need it most. Those efforts have helped achieve an average DTN time of 33 minutes across HCA Healthcare hospitals — 45% faster than the national standard.
