πŸ“šβœ¨ What better way to take a trip down memory lane than by reading a book by Effie Wilder!
A longtime resident of The Village at Summerville, then known as the Presbyterian Home, Effie drew inspiration from the friendships, humor, and everyday adventures of community life to create her beloved stories. Her first novel, Out to Pasture: But Not Over the Hill, was published in 1995 when she was 85 years old and quickly captured the hearts of readers everywhere.
Effie's success even led to her being featured on the Today Show, where she shared her remarkable journey as a first-time novelist later in life. We're proud that the stories that brought smiles to readers around the country were inspired by life right here at The Village at Summerville. β€οΈπŸ“–

On Thursday, August 20th, The Village at Summerville dedicated our new Fountain of Caring. The fountain, made possible by generous donations to the PCSC Foundation, sits in the center of our 84-acre campus and has become the highlight of our Prayer Garden. Residents and staff alike are overjoyed by the beauty and peace the fountain brings.

Last weekend, several team members from The Village at Summerville laced up their running shoes and proudly participated in The Race for The ARK! πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸ’™

Events like these are about so much more than crossing the finish line. They provide opportunities for our team members to build stronger connections, strengthen morale, and foster an even greater sense of community. When our staff feels connected and supported, that positive energy extends to the residents we serve every day.

We are grateful for our partnership with The ARK and the incredible work they do to support individuals and families in our community. Supporting local nonprofits is something we are passionate about, and we are honored to participate in events that make a meaningful difference.

Thank you to everyone who represented The Village at Summerville and helped make the day a success. We are proud to be part of a community that comes together to support one another!

Last week, our Sales & Marketing and HR teams partnered to participate in the Summerville Chamber of Commerce's Hot for Business event at Trident Technical College!
It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with local businesses, community members, and potential partners while collaborating on new ways to bring valuable services and resources to both our staff and residents at The Village at Summerville.
Sharing what makes The Village such a special place is easy when you work with a team that is driven by purpose and dedicated to making a difference every day. We are grateful for the connections made and are already looking forward to participating again next year!

🌟 FAQ Friday 🌟

Q: Does Medicare cover the cost of living in a senior living community?
A: This is one of the most common questions we receive!
Medicare does not cover the cost of room and board for:
βœ… Independent Living
βœ… Assisted Living
βœ… Memory Care
βœ… Skilled Nursing Long-Term Care

However, Medicare does help cover many healthcare-related services, including:
βœ”οΈ Short-term rehabilitation stays
βœ”οΈ Doctor's visits
βœ”οΈ Prescription medications
βœ”οΈ Outpatient therapy services

πŸ’‘ Fun Medicare Facts! Did you know that Medicare also covers:
β€’ Hospice services at 100%
β€’ A podiatry (foot care) visits every three months when medically necessary
β€’ Home health services for eligible individuals

Understanding what Medicare does and does not cover can help families plan for the future with confidence. If you have questions about senior living options or how to pay for care, our team at The Village at Summerville is always happy to help!

Wellness is Better Together: More Than Just a Workout at The Village! πŸ‘ŸπŸ’™

When you hear the word "wellness," what’s the first thing that comes to mind? For a lot of people, it’s a grueling sweat session, a diet plan, or hitting your maximum-heart rate at the gym. But if you step outside at The Village at Summerville, you’ll find that true well-being looks a whole lot different.

To us, wellness isn't a solo sport. It isn't found just in the repetition of a workout machine or the minutes clocked on a timer. True wellness is built on a foundation of connection, camaraderie, and community.

Look closely at our Village Walking Club. What you’re seeing isn’t just a group tracking their daily step countsβ€”you’re witnessing a support system. You're seeing neighbors turning into friends, open shoulders to lean on, and a safe space where laughter and conversation flow.

Next time you see our walking club out and about, don't be shy! Grab your sneakers, step outside, and join the stride. There is always a place saved just for you in our community!

🌟 Therapy Spotlight: Fonnie & Jackie 🌟
Fonnie's journey is a perfect example of the benefit of having in-house therapy services available at every level of care on our campus.
After recovering from a hip/femur fracture in 2024 and most recently a respiratory illness in 2025, Fonnie worked with our rehab team on strengthening, balance, gait training, fall prevention, daily living skills, and cognition to help her safely return to Assisted Living.
The best part? Her therapy team was able to continue supporting her through outpatient therapy once she returned home, providing a true continuum of care with familiar faces she knows and trusts.
Today, Fonnie is fully independent, actively participating in community life, crafting beautiful jewelry, and tending to plants and flowers around campus. πŸ’œ
We're proud to have Jackie as a part of our therapy services that follow our residents throughout their journey. Watching them help our residents maintain independence, dignity, and the lifestyle they love would give anyone hope that anything is possible with a little help from a friend.

πŸ† Resident vs. Staff Showdown! πŸ†

Over the last few months, Village residents and staff have been putting their skills to the test in a series of croquet and bocce ball competitions. The games have been packed with laughter, teamwork, and a little friendly trash talk along the way!

These events have created wonderful opportunities for residents and staff to connect, make memories, and enjoy some healthy competition.

And for anyone wondering who’s winning...

The residents are officially defeating the staff fair and square! πŸŽ‰πŸ‘
