Eating disorder recovery isn't just about changing your relationship with food. It's about learning how to be in your body again.
One of the most powerful eating disorder recovery skills we teach is called embodiment, and it's not what most people think.
It's not necessarily yoga or meditation, it's any moment where your body stops being the headline. A hike. A conversation you can't look away from. Something you're so absorbed in that the noise about weight and how you look just goes quiet.
That's body image freedom. And here's the part that changes everything: it's a skill. Not a gift. Not something that happens to you when you've recovered "enough."
Every time you engage with your body for what it can do rather than how it looks, you're building it. You're practicing food and body freedom in real time.
At Hilltop Behavioral Health, we believe recovery puts this in your hands. And that is powerful.

We’re often taught that safety comes from staying in control, but true healing begins when we learn to let go.

Recovery isn’t about getting everything right. It’s about rebuilding trust with yourself and believing that you can handle life without needing to control every detail.

You do not have to be perfect or hold everything together to be worthy. You are enough exactly as you are. 💙

💃 What Maggie wishes every client knew before the fitting.

In this episode of the Nourish & Empower podcast, Maggie Lefavor and Jessica talk about something that comes up with almost every client before a big fitting, wedding dress shopping, bridesmaid fittings, prom dress hunts. You're in that dress for hours. You're going to eat, sweat, drink water, use the bathroom, and actually live in it. Skipping food beforehand so it "fits better" is the eating disorder and diet culture voice talking, and it pulls you out of an experience that's supposed to feel meaningful. At Hilltop Behavioral Health, this is the everyday recovery work, learning to push back on the rules diet culture sneaks into milestone moments and build a healthier relationship with food and your body.
New episodes of Nourish & Empower drop regularly 🎙️
