Fall reminds us that letting go can be part of making room for something new. πŸ‚

Maybe you are carrying unrealistic expectations. The pressure to have everything figured out. A routine that no longer serves you. Or the idea that asking for support means you cannot handle things on your own.

Consider what you might be ready to put down this season and what you would like to make room for instead.

More rest. Healthier boundaries. Connection. Growth. Support.

Sometimes moving forward begins with deciding what you no longer need to carry.

Take a moment to check in with yourself: What are you ready to put down and what would you like to make room for?

Supporting a teen through mental health challenges can leave parents and caregivers wondering: What do I say? What should I do in the moment?

High Focus Centers in Havertown is introducing a new weekly Caregiver Course designed to give parents and caregivers practical tools for navigating challenging situations with adolescents.

Led by Jim Jacobs, MHS, Executive Director, this interactive group moves beyond general parenting advice to focus on real-life responses caregivers can use to communicate effectively, reduce escalation, set healthy expectations and preserve connection.

Topics include:
β€’ Understanding adolescent mental health challenges
β€’ Communication during difficult moments
β€’ Structure, limits and consequences without power struggles
β€’ Responding to depression, anxiety and school refusal
β€’ Navigating safety concerns
β€’ Peer difficulties and identity issues
β€’ Applying skills to real-life family situations

Through discussion, role plays and hands-on practice, caregivers can build skills they can bring home and use with greater confidence.

Sometimes your mind and body send signals that you need more support before you fully recognize it.

Changes in sleep. Feeling more irritable. Pulling away from people. Losing motivation. Returning to coping behaviors that do not support your goals.

Everyone's warning signs can look different. Learning to recognize your personal patterns can help you respond earlier by using coping skills, connecting with your support system or reaching out for professional help.

You do not have to wait until things feel unmanageable to pay attention.

Learn how individualized treatment can help you recognize patterns and build a plan for responding when you need more support.

One more scroll can quickly turn into an hour of upsetting headlines, stressful updates and negative content.

Constant exposure to distressing information can leave you feeling anxious, overwhelmed or mentally drained. While staying informed can be important, setting boundaries with your screen time can be an important part of protecting your emotional well-being.

Try checking the news at intentional times, stepping away when you notice stress building or replacing some scrolling time with an activity that helps you feel present and connected.

You can stay informed without being constantly connected.

Check in with your scrolling habits today. A small boundary may help create more space for your well-being.

Wellness does not always have to be something you practice alone.

Calling a friend. Spending time with family. Attending a support group. Talking with someone who understands. Simply being around people who help you feel supported.

Meaningful connection can be an important part of caring for your emotional well-being. Building relationships and staying connected to supportive people can remind us that we do not have to navigate difficult moments on our own.

Sometimes self-care means reaching outward. πŸ’™

Make connection part of your wellness routine. Reach out to someone who helps you feel supported.

Sometimes a craving starts with something much simpler.

HALT is a tool that encourages you to check in with four common needs:

H β€” Hungry
A β€” Angry
L β€” Lonely
T β€” Tired

When these needs go unnoticed, stress and discomfort can build. Taking a moment to identify what you are feeling can help you respond intentionally and use healthy coping skills before an urge becomes harder to manage.

The next time something feels off, ask yourself: Am I hungry, angry, lonely or tired?

Build awareness before difficult moments become overwhelming. Learn how treatment can help strengthen practical recovery skills.

πŸ“£ Meet Regan Sarmento, Director of Therapeutic Education Services at High Focus Centers in Pennsylvania!

Regan is all about using respect and kindness to help teens build confidence and resilience. And with nearly 30 years of experience supporting adolescents in behavioral health and education, she knows how to get the job done.

When she's not at work, you'll find her hanging outside with her dog, Briar, where she may throw some Disney factoids at you.

Thanks for all of your incredible work, Regan!
