Sumner, and a huge hunk of the Midwest, we’re looking at roughly 101°F this afternoon, with the heat index expected to push around 105°F. The National Weather Service has a Heat Advisory through Thursday evening for Lawrence County and surrounding areas.
Things You Should NOT Do in 105° Heat
* ❌ Do not preheat your vehicle before getting in. Mother Nature already handled that.
* ❌ Do not mow your entire yard at 2 PM. The grass can wait. It has nowhere to be.
* ❌ Do not decide today is the perfect day to clean out the attic. That’s how you meet Jesus.
* ❌ Do not wear jeans, boots, and a black shirt to “beat the heat.” You’re not Batman.
* ❌ Do not volunteer to help someone move. If they’re really your friend, they’ll understand.
* ❌ Do not say, “It doesn’t feel that bad.” You are currently being cooked.
* ❌ Do not sit in a parked vehicle and say, “I’ll only be a minute.” Famous last words.
* ❌ Do not climb onto a metal roof to “check something real quick.” Congratulations, you’ve invented a griddle.
* ❌ Do not start a backyard fire. Today is not the day to audition for Smokey Bear.
* ❌ Do not wear turnout gear for fun. There are easier ways to make soup.
* ❌ Do not challenge your buddy to see who can work the longest without drinking water. That’s not a competition.
* ❌ Do not drink three beers and call it hydration. Nice try, though.
* ❌ Do not decide to pressure-wash the entire house. Your house will still be dirty tomorrow.
* ❌ Do not tell your spouse, “Let’s go for a nice long walk.” You may not survive the marriage.
* ❌ Do not lick the sidewalk. We shouldn’t have to say this, but here we are.
* ❌ Do not leave a thermometer sitting in the sun and then post it as your official weather station. We already have enough Facebook meteorologists.
* ❌ Do not ask the fire department to come cool you off with the truck. Unless you’re actually on fire. Then, absolutely call us. 🚒
