After age 65, what is the most common injury? FALLING.
1 in 4 Adults fall every year. It’s costly in many ways. Some people don’t recover. And it’s getting worse.
What can be done to stop this trend?
Physical Therapist Alicia Nixon, owner of Garner Physical Therapy in Sun City Center, recommends strength and balance training, and using vitamins to keep your bones strong. In Europe, she says far fewer people fall, simply because they walk everywhere.
It’s constantly strengthening their legs and making falls less common.
To us Rotarians the message was clear. Stay busy. Stay fit. Stay strong, And stay upright!
Thanks Alicia for an informative session here in

Rosemary Leist has a fascinating background, starting with the fact that her Dad helped launch the Gemini and Apollo space programs, and her Mom, Marilyn, who was here visiting us today too, was a corporate executive.
A Rotarian, Rosemary was a lobbyist for 30 years, married a Navy pilot, went to High Point University, plus law school and seminary, and has been a real estate agent for 30 years. Talk about versatile!
Rosemary loves negotiating FOR her clients. She says service is her middle name.
People don’t always retire to Sun City Center. Some move here to do business, continuing to add to their already sterling list of accomplishments.
Rosemary is one of those and we are proud to have here here in .

At last weekend’s District 6890 Vibrant Club Workshop, the club received recognition for its success in having a growing membership year in and year out. Not an easy task! Dedicated workers such as Connie Huber and Bill Cox played such a vital role in this. Grateful for the award!

Most seniors want to stay in their homes and often choose to bring in help rather than move to an ALF. At Rotary today our own Damaris Roper from Homewell Care Services shared what her company offers. Need help bathing? Preparing a meal? Making sure you get your meds? The beauty of home care is you stay where you are familiar — as long as possible. The feeling of still being in control remains.
This is NOT home health care. It’s someone coming in to keep you company and help with daily household tasks. Makes a difference. Damaris also volunteers with autistic kids and leads a Bible study. To reach her, call (813) 738-4900.

TAXING. CONVOLUTED.
What’s more complicated than the US income tax system? The US is among the world’s leaders in messy tax law and because of that many of us use an accountant to avoid issues. Our club relies on CPA Jeffrey Kurtz
(813) 708-6438. Today Jeff dropped by to share with us the latest in tax law changes, because GOD KNOWS the laws are
always changing. It’s a moving target.
Thanks Jeff for helping Rotary and the rest of your fortunate customers.

DOING GOOD in the WORLD, the Mary and Martha House in Ruskin provides safe housing and other assistance to women and children fleeing a dangerous home setting. Because of this critical work, our local Rotary Foundation presented a gift today to Mary and Martha House Executive Director Bill Chini — $2500! Rotary also believes in protecting and advocating for women and children. Money well spent here in

All over the world, Rotary fights disease. So when a Moffitt Cancer Center rep drops in to share about what they do, we are
more than ready to hear it.
How critical are mammograms and lung cancer screenings?
Jeannette Palencia, Moffitt Senior Community Outreach Worker, says you CANNOT overstate the importance of regular screenings and scans. And Moffitt helps with costs when necessary. This is one of the reasons why Newsweek Magazine ranked Moffitt the #1 Cancer hospital in America. The mission is clear. Defeat cancer. And EARLY Detection makes all the difference. Much thanks to Jeannette for the presentation. And timely. Moffitt celebrates its 40th anniversary in three months. We are all proud to have this internationally ranked cancer hospital in our community.

In one of the most attention getting promises we’ve ever heard, District Governor Linda Johnson says if our district raises more
money to fight polio this fiscal year than has ever been raised before, she will skydive! Last year was our biggest year, $152,629 so that’s the target. Gotta give the DG credit because when we reach it that’ll be a PR splash. Let’s get behind Linda and save a life.

You can be driving as slow as only 9 mph and, if there’s an accident, you can still receive a traumatic brain injury.
Any bump, jolt or fall can cause a “TBI.”
It’s so important that you get medical attention immediately.
Doctors usually check to see if your vision is affected, because that’s an important indicator. Loss of consciousness, coma, amnesia — all indicators. And so many of these injuries results in a lawsuit.
Many TBIs result from the cliche “slip and fall” incident — and they’re life changing and deadly serious
This area of study is the specialty of our new Club President Connie Huber, from Ethos Health Group. She stepped up today to share about what she does for a living. All Rotarians have a story, and so do you! Join us here in so we can hear yours!
