Big news out of UC San Francisco this month: researchers built the largest-ever map of protein interactions linked to autism, over 1,800 interactions, 87% never documented before. Many different autism-linked genes seem to converge on shared biological pathways, which could give drug developers a clearer target for future treatments, especially for profound autism. As Autism Science Foundation president Alison Singer put it, "This is the kind of scientific advance we have been waiting for and praying for."
