Shout out to parents that support their child's passion! Joel didn't know anything about soccer. Today, be knows soccer, soccer development, international soccer... He watches a sport and became a fan for the love of his son. Travel, comp soccer is a commitment that the whole family makes!

The American Psychiatric Association guidelines for Ketamine induction for treatment-resistant depression are not enough. There, I said it. Read on to learn the truth: DOSE MATTERS.

The National Institute of Mental Health recognized ketamine as the ONLY rapidly-acting antidepressant in 2006. They reported an effect in 56% of patients in their early report, increasing to over 70% in 2013. This is off-label = off-patent = no Big Pharma paying to research it.

What if the American Psychiatric Association's guidelines for ketamine induction are not made for optimized results?

How does a 5'4 woman weighing 77 kg receive the same dose as a 5'9 male also weighing 77 kg? That is how the APA does ketamine. A weight-based dose. This is the standard dose provided in many university-based protocols.

The difference isn’t the medication. It’s the methodology.

Dose Matters: Did you know that anesthesiologists like to make measurements?

Anesthesiologists know that there is a circulating dose of ketamine that allows for psycholytic counseling (KAP), which is lower than the dose that works for PTSD and anxiety, which is lower than the dose that is required to treat severe depression and Suicidal Ideation!

One limiting belief that keeps the medication from being more effective is that we should be performing dosing that does not allow dissociation. In fact, the REMS reporting for dosing of Spravato indicates that dissociation is a reportable adverse event.

What if I told you that the circulating dose that is required for severe depression and Suicidal Ideation is more likely associated with dissociation? NOT allowing for dissociation would represent UNDER DOSING.
