June is Caribbean American Heritage Month, a time to recognize Caribbean Americans and the many ways Caribbean heritage has shaped communities across the United States.

Caribbean Americans are typically defined as individuals who trace their ancestry to the Caribbean region, which includes more than 30 countries and territories across the Greater and Lesser Antilles. This includes, but is not limited to, people with roots in Jamaica, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Trinidad and Tobago, Puerto Rico, Barbados and the U.S. Virgin Islands, among many others. The Caribbean community is highly diverse, reflecting a wide range of linguistic, cultural and ancestral backgrounds.

Let us all take time this month to honor their contributions, learn from various Caribbean cultures and celebrate the many ways Caribbean American communities continue to strengthen our society today.

June is recognized as Pride Month, a time to celebrate the resilience and lived experiences of le***an, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex and asexual (LGBTQIA+) communities. Pride Month traces its roots to the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in New York City, a pivotal moment in the broader movement for LGBTQIA+ rights and visibility. Today, Pride is recognized globally as both a celebration of identity and community, as well as an opportunity to reflect on continued progress toward inclusion and belonging.

At the heart of Pride Month is the reminder that dignity, respect and a sense of belonging should be reflected in how we show up for one another in our interactions with colleagues, patients and the broader communities we move through each day.
