Shane Michael Holland passed away with his family by his side on May 22, 2026, at the age of 48. He was born January 15, 1978 in Tucson, AZ, the same year his family moved to Woodland, CA where Shane graduated from Woodland High School in 1996. He then went to UCSB and earned his BA in History in 2002.

Shane met the love of his life, Carla Smith, in 2010 at his brother’s wedding and they became inseparable. In 2013 Shane and Carla moved to Susanville and in April of 2016 were married. Their family grew to four with the births of Charlotte and Evelyn.

Shane’s vast experience in business led him to working in banking, most recently at Plumas Bank where he was the Vice President, Business Advisor/Branch Manager in Susanville. In the community, he was a Rotarian, community activist and trusted advisor.

Shane was passionate about music, art, and, above all, his family. He had a remarkable talent for finding diamonds in the rough—sometimes literally. He curated a popular gem-focused social media community, bringing together people who shared his fascination with gemstones and unique finds. He brought that same enthusiasm to refurbishing Volvos, building another loyal circle of friends who shared his interests.

Shane’s enthusiasm for expertise provided a foundation in which he immersed himself when learning a new hobby. Whatever it was, Shane had done research, watched videos and reached out to the experts in the field. He was an avid hobbyist, a collector of friendships, and a builder of community.

Most importantly, Shane cultivated memories. The moments he cherished most were those spent with his wife and daughters. A glance at his social media page makes that abundantly clear—his love for his girls was woven into every part of his life. They were his greatest pride, his most valuable gemstone, and the center of the life he built.

Shane is survived by wife Carla and daughters Charlotte and Evelyn; mother Rebecca Holland; father Dr. Romie Holland (Jean Kareofelas); brother Ryan Holland (Sue) and their children Audrey, Eli and Grace; step-sisters Sara Lampinen and Merry Cristiani, as well as numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.

He was predeceased by Maternal Grandparents David and Aldyth Gragg, Paternal Grandparents Dale and Helen Holland.

Shane will be deeply missed and forever remembered in our hearts.

Memorial services are planned for:

Woodland June 15th 1 PM at St. John’s United Church of Christ 432 Cleveland Street
Susanville June 28th 2 PM at Assembly of God 473-465 Richmond Road

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Northern California Cancer Advocates or Little League in memory of Shane Holland.

In Loving Memory of Marvin Lynn Benner
September 21, 1939 – May 14, 2026

Marvin Lynn Benner went home to be with to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 14, 2026, in his home, surrounded by his loving children and his two dogs. He was a God-fearing man whose faith guided his life. Marvin loved his Lord wholeheartedly and was proud to be part of the Susanville Christian Fellowship family. He raised his children and family with those same strong values of faith, prayer, love, and respect.
Marvin was born on September 21, 1939, to Sidney and Viola Benner and was the oldest of many loved children. He was raised in Susanville, CA by his mother and stepfather Herman Williams, whom he loved dearly and proudly considered Herman as his Father. Susanville was always home, and held a special place in his heart, filled with memories and stories he loved to share. He had a love for animals from a very young age, and was rarely seen without a dog or two beside him.
Deeply influenced by his grandmother, Leona “Mosey” Morales, and great-grandmother, Roxie Peconom, they taught Marvin the “Old Indian Ways.” He was incredibly proud of his Native heritage and loved to research and share stories about their way of life.
His beloved Aunt “Awnikins” Lorinda also had a deep influence on him. While growing up on the family’s Mill Creek Ranch, he learned to cowboy and developed a lifelong love for ranching, horses, music and the outdoors.
Marvin carried great pride for his culture and his people and passed those traditions and values down to his children and grandchildren. On many of the short stories he wrote, he proudly included his signature phrase, “By Marvin Benner; An Old Maidu, Atsugewi, Yahi, Holland Dutch.” He was proud to be Native. He was proud to be Dutch, but most of all, he was proud to be an American.
Marvin spent most of his career (1968-2006) working for the Forest Service on the Lassen National Forest, as a Survey Engineer and Tribal Liaison. He took tremendous pride in his work and in the changes he helped make for the Native people and the community. He was instrumental in establishing the Roxie Peconom Campground, named in honor of his great-grandmother and often recalled her picking willow branches and berries from that area. He was also instrumental in developing the Hat Creek Rim Overlook off of Highway 44, as well as many other meaningful projects throughout his career. His dedication, hard work, and love for his people left a lasting impact that will continue for generations.
While serving in the U.S. Army National Guard, Marvin married his one true love, Gloria Wyckoff. Together they built a beautiful life centered around faith, family and love. He loved his family with a fierce love and was immensely proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him endless joy.
Marvin is survived by his son, Marvin H (Tammy); daughter, Tanna Benner-Franco; grandchildren, Alesha Shepherd (Bobby), Lacey Benner and Lindsey Smith; several beloved great-grandchildren; his brother Kenneth; sisters, Beverly Ogle, Linda Hutt, Wanda Brown and Nonnie Crosno (Tom); many half-brothers and sisters; and many loved ones and lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved Gloria; son-in-law Joseph Franco; mother, Viola Williams; Father, Herman Williams; brother Dwayne; and many other cherished family members.
Marvin’s strength, wisdom, faith, humor, story-telling and deep love for his family will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Frank Scott Ulch passed away on May 19, 2026 at his home in Sparks, Nevada, surrounded by family. Scott was born in Oroville, California on July 20, 1952. He spent his youth in Susanville, California with his loving parents Millard Walker and Selena Helen Ulch on the Ulch Family Ranch raising Morgan horses and cattle. Scott graduated from Lassen High School in 1971. He volunteered with the Susan River Fire Department and the Lassen County Sheriff’s Posse.
Scott married Patsy Ulch, on May 20, 1983. They enjoyed 43 wonderful years together and their journey involved ranching, gold mining, and tree farming. They built a legacy of silver tip Christmas tree farming, starting with one retail lot and growing the business into a wholesale operation with trees being shipped across the nation. Scott felt most at home in the high Sierra mountains, among trees and timber, with a saw in hand. He had an affinity for operating equipment and spent countless hours making his visions of good roads and cleanup come to life. To watch him operate equipment, was to watch art in motion. A highly respected ranch realtor, he excelled in his profession earning many awards. In every season of life, he marked the things he loved with his family’s rocking chair or 7U brand and always had a good dog by his side.
Scott loved people with the social nature of a friendly puppy. People loved him. The tangible evidence of this is the flood of condolences his family received. He was a masterful storyteller with a command of the English language that left his listeners with a vivid mental picture and good laugh. An encyclopedia of information, his brain power wowed as he would freely share his incredible wisdom on many subjects from history to geology to forestry to geography and beyond. His grandkids knew he was always good for an ice cream run, as long as they showed their appreciation with a signature “thanks Grump-pa”. He had a sparkle in his blue eyes and the best original one-liners.
Scott is survived by his loving wife Patricia Ulch. He was a ladies’ man, not by choice, but in the sense that his lot in life was to be the dad to daughters! Those daughters are: Shawna McCutcheon (Matt), Cassandra Kindle (Jesse), Adreanne Ulch, Jessica Clarke (Rob), Rachel Duffle (Brian), Penny Goddard (Phillip), Selena Pope (Jade).
