As we recently celebrated Nurses Week, we also took time to celebrate our Assistant Director of Nursing, Lora Smalling, who graduated on Friday, 5/8/25, with her Associate Degree after successfully completing all Registered Nursing classes, clinicals, and exams through Cleveland State Community College School of Nursing. She is now awaiting her scheduled Nursing Boards testing to officially earn the RN title — although to us, she has already earned it!
For the past 27 years, Lora has faithfully served our facility as an LPN, always willing to step in and help wherever needed to ensure our residents receive the very best care. Through ownership changes, management transitions, and staffing changes, The Waters has always remained close to her heart and truly her second home.
Born and raised in Monroe County, Tennessee, Lora represents the compassion, dedication, and kindness that make this community so special. Throughout her RN journey, she balanced weekly classes and clinicals while continuing to work 40+ hours each week supporting both residents and staff.
Not only did Lora excel academically, but she was also inducted into the Beta Omicron Chapter of Alpha Delta Nu Honor Society — an invitation-only honor recognizing nursing students who maintain a cumulative “B” average or higher while demonstrating exemplary conduct, integrity, and professionalism both inside and outside the classroom. This honor describes Lora perfectly!
Lora’s family, coworkers, residents, and even vendors have all cheered her on throughout this incredible journey, and we could not be more proud of everything she has accomplished.
Please join us in congratulating Lora on this amazing milestone and wishing her the very best as she prepares for her Nursing Boards! We are all behind you every step of the way! 💙🎓👏
