Just a little update on how our board spends the generous donations we receive.

Since our very successful Give DeKalb County, 2026 we realized that the bedding at the Sober Living House had not been replaced for 10 years! So that was our first expenditure. We have already replaced all the mattresses, box springs, sheets and pillows for the whole house.

Next we are planning to shore up and improve a 3 season room in the downstairs of the house presently only used for storage. It will then become a multipurpose space.

In the last year we replaced a deteriorating emergency exit stairway from the second floor. At that time we had a tree removed that was overhanging that stairway and adding to its deterioration.

We also support the clients of all the treatment courts by supplying each new client with a backpack of essential toiletries, and maintain a scholarship available for a variety of needs such as equipment or clothing needed for a new job.

We are always looking for ways we can support the clients, and we are also always looking for additional board members. If this sounds like a board you’d be interested in joining please send a pm on this page.

The Board of the Friends of DeKalb County Treatment Courts gratefully acknowledges your generous donation through Give DeKalb County 2026. This donation and all other donations go directly to support the clients of all of the Treatment Courts who are bravely struggling to overcome their demons and become contributing members of society.

Treatment courts are considered the most successful justice intervention for people with substance use and mental health disorders.

For three decades, treatment courts have proven that a combination of treatment and compassion can reduce crime and lead people with substance use and/or mental health disorders into lives of stability, health, and recovery.

By uniting public safety and public health, treatment courts prevent fatal overdoses, strengthen families, and make communities safer all while saving taxpayer dollars.

Thank you again for supporting this important program in our county.

As many of you know, Give DeKalb County is one week away on Thursday, May 7th. And we hope you also know that Friends of DeKalb County Treatment Courts is a very small 501(c)(3) that gives every penny we raise to support the participants in and the programs of the DeKalb County Treatment Courts. Our hope is that our support of improvements to the Sober Living House property, the Backpack Program which provides personal hygiene essentials, the Stable Housing Scholarship providing job support, work training and treatment support services, in addition to temporary monetary assistance to pay the monthly sober living house fees all help participants remain successful in their goal of graduating and regaining full participation in society.

If you want to donate by mail, attached is a form that will allow you to make out one check for all your donations. You can also walk in on May 7th to the Community Foundation, 475 DeKalb Avenue, Sycamore to give, or go to their online site at https://www.givedekalbcounty.org/

Thank you in advance for thinking us!
