JoAnn Lee Bausman, age 93, of Ocean View, Delaware, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, August 28, 2026, in Mount Airy, Maryland.

JoAnn was born on September 24, 1932, in Cumberland, Maryland, to the late Thomas and Christine (Miller) Peterson. As the oldest child in her family, she learned early in life the values of hard work, sacrifice, responsibility, and caring for others. Growing up between West Virginia and Cumberland, Maryland, she often put the needs of her younger siblings and family before her own, even sacrificing educational opportunities to help support those she loved. These experiences helped shape the remarkable woman she became: strong, compassionate, selfless, and devoted to her family.

JoAnn's greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted wife to her beloved husband, William Carl Bausman, Jr., with whom she shared 63 wonderful years of marriage. Together they built a loving home and raised three children, building a life centered on family. JoAnn worked tirelessly to support Bill's professional ambitions while fulfilling her lifelong dream of being a dedicated mother, caregiver, and homemaker. Her unwavering support helped create the foundation upon which her family flourished.

Later in life, she continued her passion for serving others as a cafeteria worker for Baltimore County Public Schools. She cherished the opportunity to work with children and was known for her warm smile, kind heart, and ability to make everyone feel welcome. JoAnn had a gift for bringing out the best in others. She always took the time to greet people, learn their stories, and make a stranger feel like a friend. Her genuine interest in others, infectious laugh, and welcoming spirit left a lasting impression on everyone she met.

JoAnn enjoyed cooking, gardening, dancing, antiquing, playing card games, and collecting elephants. She especially loved spending time with her family, where great memories were made camping, fishing, and crabbing. She was full of life, loved to laugh, and rarely passed up an opportunity to share a conversation with someone new. Following retirement, JoAnn and Bill enjoyed visiting local casinos together, where they made many cherished friendships and shared countless happy moments with their Ocean View neighbors and friends.

In addition to her parents, JoAnn was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, William Carl Bausman, Jr.; her grandson, Joey Hegarty; and her sister, Nancy Maerten.

She is survived by her loving children, Lisa Hegarty (Joseph) of Mount Airy, Maryland, Cami Passerrello (Joshua) of Cockeysville, Maryland, and William Carl Bausman, III (Jeanine) of Parkville, Maryland; six cherished grandchildren, Ryan Hegarty, Chuck Gelso, Vincent Gelso, Victoria Gelso, Caroline Bausman, and William Francis Bausman; and her siblings, Barbara Topper, Thomas Peterson (Iris), and William Peterson (Joyce).

The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 13, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, 1212 West Old Liberty Road, Sykesville, Maryland 21784. A funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m.

JoAnn will be remembered for her lifelong devotion to family, her selfless spirit, her compassion for others, and her ability to make everyone feel valued and welcome. Her legacy of love, sacrifice, kindness, and unwavering dedication to those she cared for will continue to live on through the family and friends who were blessed to know and love her.

Beverly A. Wonderly, age 82, of Westminster, MD., died Sunday, August 30, 2026, at Carroll Hospice, Inc.- Dove House in Westminster, MD.

She was the wife of the late Dale Wonderly of Westminster for 55 years.

Bev was born June 28, 1944, in Daniels, MD., daughter of the late Walter B. Duvall and the late Alma J. Duvall (nee Bourne).

Bev was employed by COLA for over 30 years, where she worked as a receptionist and secretary. She was a longtime member of Trinity Life, where she joyfully sang in the church choir.

Bev loved spending long, relaxing days at the beach in Ocean City, MD. She was an avid reader and enjoyed being part of her book club.

Above all, Bev cherished her family. She treasured time with her cousins and gatherings that brought everyone together. Christmas was a particularly special time for Bev, filled with family, traditions and memories she held dear.

Surviving are children; Cynthia Brown and the late Tim, and Amy Miller and husband Marty; grandmother of Christopher Miller, Wyatt Miller, Patrick Brown (Courtney) and Kendall Miller; sister of Ronald Duvall and wife Kathy Duvall, and sister of the late John Duvall (Cheryl).

Friends may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Sykesville, MD., 21784, (Beside South Carroll High School) on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon with funeral service starting at Noon.

Galen C. Buckingham, 73 of Westminster, Md passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at Lorien of Taneytown.

He was the husband of the late Cathy Bowman Buckingham (nee Seal) for 14 years.

Born November 24, 1952, in Gettysburg, PA the son of the late Albert L. Buckingham and the late Ruth H. Buckingham (nee Hoff).

He worked in construction for various contractors. He graduated from South Carroll High School class of 1970. Galen was a Life member of the Winfield Community Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed hunting, traveling, eating out, gambling and spending time with his great nieces.

Galen is survived by his siblings Ruthann Pittinger & husband Ernie and Albert Wayne Buckingham & wife Faye; sister in laws Helen Hoff, and Juanita Russell; nephew Bryan Pittinger & wife Evelyn, niece Stacy Baxter & husband Stephen; great nieces Leiana Baxter, Gabriella Pittinger, Mia Baxter, Savannah Pittinger, and Olvia Pittinger; stepson Anthony Bowman. He is also survived by many other loving relatives and friends.

The family wishes to thank all the staff of Lorien in Taneytown for their kindness and care in caring for Galen.

Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2026 at 4 PM at Winfield Community Volunteer Fire Department 1320 West Old Liberty Road Sykesville, MD 21784.

Carole Hackett, 90, of Lusby, MD passed away on August 14, 2026, at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC. Born August 1, 1936, in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Isadore and Rachel (Dantzic) Kirsh. She was married to her husband, Richard Hackett, for more than 40 years. She retired from F.A.E.S. at NIH in 1998, and for many years cruised the winter months in the Bahamas and Florida with her beloved husband on their sailboat. Carole will not only be greatly missed by her loving family and friends, but by the cruising community as well.

Carole also volunteered at SMILE, in the thrift store supporting a food bank in Lusby MD, for 27 years. She had many dear friends from her tireless work at SMILE.

Surviving are her two daughters, Joan Jones of Mount Airy, MD, Kathi Crispino of Coconut Creek, FL; two brothers, Noel (Sonny) Kirsh of Frederick, MD, Steve Kirsh of Ellicott City, MD; two grandchildren, Melissa Cramer of Chapel Hill, NC, Kimberly Kiefer of Naples, FL; three great-grandchildren, Luna Naveda of Chapel Hill, NC, Leo Naveda of Chapel Hill, NC, Lourdes Naveda of Denver, CO.

A Celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Geraldine Rodetta Dorsey departed her earthly life surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, August 20, 2026.

Geraldine was affectionately known by family and friends as Rodetta.

She is survived by her two sons Ricky Dorsey of Frederick, MD and Leslie Dorsey of Mount Airy, MD; her last remaining sibling Richard “Joe” Simms (Beverly), of Greenville, SC; 12 grandchildren: Sharmeika Dorsey, Korienne Dorsey, Bameika Dorsey, Crystal Dorsey, Danielle Dorsey, Michael Dorsey, Dina Heart (Andrew), Marshela Coleman, Leslie Dorsey, Jr. (Felicia), Devonte Dorsey, Kayla Dorsey, Valerie Dorsey; 35 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her godchildren: Dorothy Brightful, Allan Dorsey, Jackie Jackson, Lawrence Brightful IV, Charlie Myers and Milton Bowens, Jr. For those who truly knew Rodetta, she probably has more godchildren. If we have forgotten any of you, please charge not listing your name to our minds, and not our hearts. And last, but never forgotten, her devoted Sister-In-Law Lucille Dorsey of Mt. Airy, MD, and her friend and caretaker Charmaine Tonsil of Hagerstown, MD.

Rodetta was preceded in death by her loving parents John and Mary Simms, Sr.; ten of her siblings and their spouses: Randolph Simms (Mary), Rose Simms, Irene Simms, Elizabeth Waters (Perry), Lucille Dotson, Charles Simms (Georgia), John Simms, Jr., Doris Myers (Herman), James Simms, Sr. (Edith), Joan Moore (Maurice) and Bernice Davis. She was also preceded in death by a number of nieces and nephews: Elise, Christopher, Veronica aka “Ronnie,” Nevel, Bonnie, Corey, Joyce, Melissa, Donna, Regina, Arthur, Randy, Gloria, Milton, Sr. and Kyle. She was also preceded by her husband Vincent and her devoted friend Rick. One grandson, Dwayne and two great granddaughters, Joelle and Janiyah.

Rodetta, was educated at Robert Moton a school for African American children, located in Westminster, MD. She worked for National Geographic in Darnestown, MD for over 30 years before retiring.

She truly enjoyed being a dedicated Eastern Star sister, which took up more than 30+ years of her life.

She loved traveling to the various states to visit her siblings. We aren’t sure if she spent more time visiting with her brother Joe in MA, AZ and CA, or with her sister Bernice in NY and Mt. Airy once she moved back to MD. We know she traveled to MS to see Charles and Philadelphia, PA to see Elizabeth. We also know she made pit stops at the casinos in Las Vegas and Atlantic City.

Rodetta enjoyed many things in life, but I think two of her most enjoyable things she did was to play a card game of “hand & foot” and the game “Trouble.” She along with her sisters Lucille and Doris would spend hours upon hours playing these games. They played so much the images on the cards wore off, and popper stopped popping.

Rodetta continued to attend services and dedicated events until she could no longer attend the services due to her Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Woodbine, MD – Paul Dorsey Browning of Woodbine, MD, passed away on August 17, 2026. He was 80 years old.

Born in Baltimore, MD, on September 8, 1945, to the late Vernie Dorsey Browning and late Margaret Alma Shaw Browning. Mr. Browning is survived by his faithful wife of 58 years, Shirley Ann (nee Condon) Browning, of Woodbine, MD; nephew David Sherman, Jr. of Ocean City, MD; nephew Brian F. Sherman, Sr. of Baltimore Co, MD; niece Karen T. Breeding and husband, Rick, of Denton, MD; numerous great nephews and nieces and many loving family members on his wife’s side of the family. He was preceded in death by a sister, Beverly A. Sherman, and brother, Richard Browning.

Mr. Browning was a machinist who worked at various companies and was self employed for many years. His love and knowledge of cars was endless. He was also well known for his tireless gift of gab and ability to have long conversations with virtually anyone he met, including his local Chick-fil-A, Burger King and Dunkin Donut social buddies.

Interment will take place at Morgan Chapel Cemetery, 6750 Woodbine Road, Woodbine, MD, on Thursday, Aug 27, 2026 at 11:00am with an informal celebration of life immediately to follow.

Jeff Shay went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, August 19th, 2026, at his home in Mt. Airy, MD surrounded by family due to several illnesses including Pulmonary Fibrosis, Pulmonary Hypertension and Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He was born May 3, 1953, in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Jeff served in many roles during his lifetime including coaching of youth baseball and basketball, church softball, church treasurer, building committees and other church leadership. He was a CPA with 50 years of financial management for growing companies. He was controller for Duron Paints and Wallcoverings, VP of Finance for 1-800 PACKRAT and most recently CFO with FR Conversions in Westminster. He loved the Orioles and Ravens and never missed watching a game. He enjoyed his men’s Bible study group. He had assurance of living eternally in Heaven because of his acceptance of Jesus as his Savior.

Jeff is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Nancy, his son Michael Shay (Garland, TX), his daughter Kellee Mulder and husband Greg (Westminster, MD), grandchildren Chase and Chloe Mulder, sisters Cynthia Knopp and Donna Landon, and brother Russell Back.

The family welcomes friends and family to a memorial service at Uniontown Bible Church at 4272 Watson Lane, Union Bridge MD 21791 on Sunday, August 30th at 3pm with a reception immediately following.

Darlene Harriett Jessen (nee Hollman), 82 of Sykesville, MD passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, August 20, 2026.
Darlene was born November 12, 1943, in Daniels, MD, the daughter of the late Alfred B. Hollman and the late Geneva D. Hollman (nee Pilcher). She was preceded in death by her husband Vernon and siblings, Jack, George and Frances.
She loved to travel, spend time with her family and lifelong friends. She also greatly enjoyed many friendships at Faith Lutheran Church, where she was an active member.
She is survived by her children Robyn Duafala & husband Ed, and Robert Jessen; grandchildren Genna, Brittany (Jared), Emily, Kimberly and Steven, and great grandson Bentlley. Also survived by many nieces & nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 28th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at BURRIER-QUEEN FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Sykesville MD 21784 (next to South Carroll High School). The funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 29th at Faith Lutheran Church, 1700 St Andrews Way Eldersburg, MD 21784 at 12:00 noon, officiated by Pastor Christopher Sperb. The service will be followed by a reception at the church’s reception hall.
Interment will be private.

Mary Jane Brett, 92, of Mt. Airy, Maryland passed peacefully on August 14, 2026. She was from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, one of 11 children born to the late Lawrence and Aurelia (Bach) Schuster.

She was employed by the Social Security Administration in Woodlawn until the family transferred to Frankfurt, Germany, where she worked with the Department of the Army.

Always seeking new activities, Mary Jane enjoyed European travel, quilting, bowling, swimming, oil and decorative painting, and baking. Her kitchen cookie jar was the first stop for many a family member. She had a beautiful singing voice, was a member of the Sweet Adeline’s in Milwaukee, and sang in her church choir.

Committed to community, Mary Jane was a life member of the auxiliaries of the American Legion Gold Star Post 191 and of VFW Counties Four Post 10076, Mount Airy. She served in numerous capacities at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church in Poplar Springs, which included President of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary 10026 for four terms. For her involvement and dedication, she was awarded the Archdiocesan “Medal of Honor” by Bishop Francis Malooly.

She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Arthur Brett, and by eight of her brothers and sisters.

Surviving are her daughters Mary Bare of North Carolina (husband Roger), Jean Vaccarino of New Windsor, Michelle Digesare of New York, grandchildren Brian O’Neil, Jaime (Emery) Lucier, Christina (Bryan) Pritchett, Samantha (Austin) Lowe, Amy (Beau) Horning, Michael (Erin) Vaccarino, Angela (Dusty) Derr, Katherine (Joe) Malizia, Kellie (Jason) Koster, Suzanne (Christopher) Milligan, 23 great-grandchildren, multiple nieces and nephews, and dear friend and spiritual advisor, Father Kurt Klismet.

Mary Jane will most be remembered for her faith, true love of life, and love and devotion to family.

Visitation with the family will be held from 1–3 p.m. and from 5–7 p.m. on Thursday, August 20, at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory located at 1212 W Old Liberty Rd., Sykesville, MD. On Friday, August 21, Mass will be offered at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Church (in the gym due to construction) at 1125 St. Michael’s Rd., Mount Airy, MD, with interment at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Mount Airy, and gathering back at the church.

James Arthur Berg Jr. passed away on August 10, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, hard work, and cherished memories. Born in Baltimore, Maryland on August 8, 1943, to the late James A. Berg Sr. and Anne (Kildis) Berg.
A proud member of service, James served his country in the Army National Guard and was among those who protected the city of Baltimore during the 1968 riots. By trade, James was a master professional printer. Over his distinguished career, he operated and maintained printing presses for several major publishing and printing companies, including the News American, ALCO, Maxwell Communications, Quebecor, The Washington Post, and The Baltimore Sun.
In 1968, James married Barbara and together, they established their roots in Pasadena, Maryland, where they became lifelong residents and raised their family.
James was a man of diverse passions and simple pleasures. An ardent Baltimore sports fan, he rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his beloved Orioles, whether watching from home or taking in a game at the ballpark. Since his boyhood, James had a passion for toy trains, ultimately amassing an impressive collection that he took great pride in displaying; he was also an active member of the Train Collectors Association. His sharp eye for detail extended to classic cars, which he could instantly identify the moment one passed by. James cherished quiet getaways to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, as well as trips to the beach—where no visit was ever truly complete without getting a bucket of Thrasher’s French Fries on the boardwalk.
Above all, James was a family man who treasured every moment spent with those he loved. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Sr. and Anne; his sister, Nancy; and his beloved daughter, Suzanne.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his devoted children, Jennifer (Jayne), Robert (and Joanne), and Michael (and Michelle); and his cherished grandchildren, Sydni, Makena, Logan, Luke, Ella, and Alex, all of whom he loved dearly. He also leaves behind extended family, friends, and fellow collectors who will deeply miss him.
Services and interment will be held privately by the family.
