Anesthesia Induction:
If You’re Child Is Having Surgery Or A Procedure That Requires Anesthesia, Your Child’s Anesthesiologist Will Decide The Fastest And Most Appropriate Induction Method For Your Child Based On Their Age And Their Needs.

• Anesthesia Mask: If Youre Child Will Be Going To Sleep With The Anesthesia Mask, A Board Certified Child Life Specialist Will Come In And Explain To Your Child Everything They Need To Know So Nothing Unexpected Happens That Could Lead To Meltdown. The Anesthesia Mask Is Soft And Squishy, It Will Be Placed Over Your Child’s Nose And Mouth, Flavors And Scents Are Available, The Mask Is Very Comfortable And Your Child Will Fall Asleep In Under 30 Seconds.

Techniques For Successful Induction:

1. Firmly But Gently Hold Your Childs Hands Across Their Chest. This Will Prevent Your Child From Removing The Mask.

2. Use Distraction Such As Tablet Or Book.

3. If Child Tries To Remove Anesthetic Mask, Grasp Both Wrists Gently And Let Your Child Know Everything Is Okay And Ask Your Child To Take Big Deep Breathes Through Their Nose.

Restless Child: Your Child May Be Restless And Try To Slip Off The Mask Because The Mask May Have An Unfamiliar Smell Or They May Be Frightened By The Mask.
