Meet Deena Hannen, one of our newest board members!

Deena Hannen, RN, MSN, CMAC, serves as Vice President of Case Management and Chief Nursing Officer for Ambulatory Nursing at MultiCare Health System. With over 20 years of leadership experience in similar roles, Deena leads interdisciplinary teams of nurses and social workers focused on addressing social determinants of health and improving patient outcomes. Deena’s work spans hospital and clinic settings, with a strong emphasis on strengthening connections between healthcare services and the communities they serve.

When asked why she decided to join our board, she said, “In my work history, I unfortunately had to serve women and children who were experiencing the worst assault on their persons. Helping bridge to a better future was an all too frequent need. When I was asked to serve, it was with the framework of how I can help our communities do better with understanding, mitigating, and serving this portion of our community.” Thank you so much Deena for volunteering your time and expertise!

We are proud to highlight our amazing board members who help guide Rebuilding Hope’s mission and strengthen our impact. Stay tuned for our next Board Member Spotlight!

Happy Pride Month and season!

Here in Pierce and Kitsap counties, we start the fun now with the global recognition of Pride and keep it going all the way through July with local celebrations and events. Shout out to our friends at the Rainbow Center, Kitsap Pride, The Puyallup Tribe of Indians, and the many other incredible groups and organizations hosting Pride events throughout our community. Stay tuned to see which events we’ll be at this summer!

At Rebuilding Hope, we celebrate the spirit of Pride year-round by affirming LGBTQ+ identities and supporting the ongoing fight for LGBTQ+ rights. We recognize that LGBTQ+ individuals experience disproportionately high rates of violence, including sexual assault, with BIPOC LGBTQ+ community members facing even greater risks due to intersecting identities. According to the Human Rights Campaign, crimes targeting LGBTQ+ people continue to rank among the top three most commonly reported hate crimes in the United States. To offer true trauma-informed support, we must acknowledge these realities and how they shape the lived experiences of the communities we serve.

The healing services that we offer victim-survivors are available to ALL Pierce and Kitsap county residents, regardless of sexual orientation, gender, race, ethnicity, immigration status, income, or any other characteristic.

If you or someone you know needs support, call our 24/7 Helpline anytime at 1-855-757-7273.

Prefer not to call? Advocates are also available 24/7 via email at [email protected].

We need your help!

We’ve been selected to participate in - an annual giving campaign that raises funds for critical needs identified by local nonprofits. Every dollar donated through Bainbridge Gives comes straight to us, helping us provide vital therapy and advocacy support to victim-survivors, as well as prevention education to youth and professionals across Kitsap and Pierce counties.

Make your gift today through June 12 by visiting https://bcf.fcsuite.com/erp/donate/create/grant?grant_id=40041

Bainbridge Gives is a crowd-sourced fundraising campaign in which every participating nonprofit, including us, has been vetted and approved by community volunteers and staff organized by the Bainbridge Community Foundation (BCF). And BCF provided seed funds to get the movement going. That means your support goes directly to causes you care about, and you can feel confident knowing your gift is making a real impact.

Thank you for your support in our mission to provide support, promote healing, and partner to end sexual violence.

This month we want to highlight our Development and Communications Manager, Marissa Lewis!

Marissa initially joined our team as a coordinator to spearhead our Healing Headquarters Campaign and grow our fundraising team’s capacity. Since then, she’s continued playing a key role in the campaign to fully transform our new Hilltop office into the trauma-informed healing center we envision, ensuring every victim-survivor can access the support they deserve.

Her work includes building relationships with funders in the community including individuals, foundations, and community service groups, as well as planning fundraising events like our 5th Annual Spring Soiree last month. She also collaborates with local businesses and community partners to strengthen our presence in the community. She manages all communication efforts including our social media, newsletters, blogs, and more to help ensure our community stays informed about our services and how to support the work of supporting victim-survivors and ending sexual violence.

Her work is vital in supporting the sustainability of our mission and helps us remain connected and responsive to the community we serve.

Marissa has been with us for a year and a half now, and we are so lucky to have her!

We’re proud to be able to highlight our amazing staff. Stay tuned for a Board highlight where we will introduce you to our incredible board members!

Meet Melissa Sturzen, a member of our Teal Team! Becoming a part of the Teal Team means committing to a monthly gift—big or small—that adds to the collective support sustaining the vital healing services we provide for victim-survivors. It is one of the many ways you can support our work and join the movement to stop sexual violence in our community.

When asked why she decided to become a member, Melissa said, “I’m a Teal Team member because it’s important to me that our local community has strong resources both to prevent sexual assault and to support those who have experienced it. This work feels especially important right now, as it can feel like we’re backsliding as a country in what we’re willing to tolerate—making the need for advocates and resources even greater. I’m grateful that Rebuilding Hope provides critical support and education in this space. If even one person is helped by this work, it’s absolutely worth it to me.” Thank you Melissa and all of our Teal Team Members for your support!

Sign up and contribute today by going to https://portals.compass-360.org/Compass360WebUserServices08/org=hopesacpc.org/request=donations, filling in the amount that you want to contribute each month, and selecting “monthly.” That's it!

Remember, every contribution, no matter the size, adds up to meaningful and sustained impact. We hope to see you on the Team!
