Okay this is the only picture I took at this year's Therapist of Color Conference because I was too busy crying my eyeballs out and feeling all the feels within this community of BIPOC students and professionals.
We talked about the challenges we face in this field being people of color, the challenges we face among our own families choosing this profession and much more related to historical and intergenerational trauma as well as racism in all its ugly forms. Though we discussed some pain points we also discussed how to cope and heal from them which is a conversation I hope to continue and carry throughout this work and in my personal life.
Thank you, thank you, thank you to the keynote speaker and author of The Pain We Carry and everyone else that made this conference happen.

I am very excited to share this upcoming therapy group hosted by myself and Suzi McDuff. We have been working hard on planning this group and making it available to those who are interested. Knitting Together: Toxic Relationship and Domestic Violence Support Group starts in October. This group will be in-person, located in Lacey, WA and will run for 6 weeks starting October 12th. This is a Turkish spindle. It is a simple tool to make yarn. Did you know fiber arts can be therapeutic? It is a way to engage in mindfulness, can serve as a creative outlet and is a good outlet for busybodies or anybody to engage in some good old-fashioned crafting.
As a therapist, I am constantly thinking of the ways in which fiber arts can be helpful to us individuals in an automated world where most things are instantly and mass produced.
So making yarn in this very slow way is a reminder to myself, personally, to slow down in my mind and in life at times.
