Every fall, Ashley ensures her daughter gets her flu and COVID-19 vaccines to help prevent illness before it occurs. This matters even more in their household, as Ashley is immunocompromised.

But in 2025, logistical issues and regulatory delays left many parents like Ashley unable to find age-appropriate vaccines for their little ones.

Relief finally came through a community vaccination partnership created by the Bessler Center at Mary Bridge Children’s with Acts Pharmacy and Healthcare Services and the Pierce County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC).

In one year, the partnership delivered 1,376 cumulative vaccines, preparing children for school and protecting kids like Winifred — and adults like Ashley — from respiratory illness.

A community vaccination partnership created by the Bessler Center at Mary Bridge Children's and other local groups helps support neighborhood vaccine clinics.

After years of planning and preparation, we welcomed our first patients into the new Mary Bridge Children's Hospital campus last weekend.

Pediatric transport teams moved 61 patients from intensive care and medical-surgical units at the old campus into the new facility, and our pediatric emergency department began accepting patients earlier that morning.

Thank you to all the physicians, nurses, staff and volunteers for your support during this extraordinary process and for making move day a success.

Effective today, Saturday, May 16, MultiCare Mary Bridge Children's Hospital is now located at our new hospital (305 S. L Street, Tacoma), across the street from MultiCare Tacoma General. This includes all pediatric emergency and surgical services. If your child is facing a life-threatening emergency, please call 911.

The new Mary Bridge Children’s hospital design includes features to help reduce children's medical anxieties. One highlight is a “kitten” scanner — a child-friendly, miniature replica of a real CT scanner. Developed by Philips, this interactive tool uses an app and specially designed stuffed animals to let kids “scan” their toys, helping them learn through play and better understand the procedures they may experience.

What once was the dream of Dr. Albert Bridge and our Mary Bridge Brigade foremothers is now a wonder‑filled, state‑of‑the‑art home for pediatric care, featuring:

🪁 82 patient rooms across five floors
🪁Eight operating rooms designed for little bodies
🪁 Three play rooms offering comfort, creativity and moments of normalcy

Together, through gifts of all sizes, you’ve raised over $106 million to make this possible. Your generosity helped create this place of light, healing and possibility, and generations of kids will feel your impact.

Inspired by children’s curiosity and their ability to find beauty in the unexpected, our entire campus is designed with kids in mind.

Our play areas provide a comforting break from medical care, with age-appropriate activities that support both play and healing. Knowing that hospitals and doctor’s offices can be scary places for kids, we use therapeutic play and facilitated activities to help patients feel more at ease—and give them the chance to be kids while they’re here. 💜

After years of planning and building, the new MultiCare Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital is ready to serve our community. In a few short days we will officially open our doors, and welcome the first patients to our new campus.

This milestone is about more than a new building. It’s a place created just for kids and a legacy gift from our community, back to the families who will rely on it for years to come.
