Peptides are everywhere right now, from weight loss ads to wellness influencers. But not every peptide has the same evidence behind it.

In a new article, Dr. Anne Wells breaks down what peptides actually are and looks closely at GLP-1 medications like semaglutide and tirzepatide, including what research shows about weight loss, sleep apnea, PCOS, and perimenopause and menopause.

A few things worth knowing:

-GLP-1 medications work by mimicking a hormone your body already makes after eating
-Semaglutide and tirzepatide are not the same drug, and they do not work identically
-Research on GLP-1s and PCOS shows promise for weight and insulin resistance, but is still limited on fertility and hormone outcomes
-Not all peptide therapies marketed online have strong human research behind them

Dr. Wells is currently accepting new patients through Puget Sound Family Health. Most major insurance plans accepted, self-pay also available.

Sports physicals are required by most middle and high schools before students can practice or play. If your child is heading into a fall sport this year, now is the time to schedule. Appointments fill up fast as the season gets closer.

Check with your child's school for the specific forms they need, and remember that many of those forms include a section for parents to complete. Getting that done ahead of time helps the visit go smoothly.

Call us at (253) 503-8792 or email [email protected] to schedule.

Warm weather means your body needs more water than usual. Dehydration builds up gradually, so by the time you feel thirsty, you are often already behind on fluids. Drink water throughout the day, add electrolytes if you are sweating heavily, and take breaks in the shade during the hottest part of the day, especially for kids and older adults.

Know the warning signs of heat stroke: high body temperature, hot dry or damp skin, rapid pulse, confusion, or loss of consciousness. If you suspect heat stroke, call 911 right away.

If you need a break from the heat, Pierce County cooling centers are available, including rides to get you there: https://tinyurl.com/jc92rp6k

Questions about hydration or heat related symptoms? Call us at (253) 503-8792.

A quick note for our patients: Puget Sound Family Health will be closed Friday, July 3rd, and we'll be back Monday, July 6th.

This year has had its share of noise, so we're looking forward to a few quiet days to reset and spend time with the people who matter most. However you're celebrating, we hope your long weekend is safe, relaxing, and full of good company.

See you Monday!

Did you know your gut and your hormones are in constant conversation? When that relationship is off, you feel it - brain fog, bloating, mood shifts, fatigue, and more.

On Saturday, July 11 from 1 to 3 PM Pacific, Dr. Anup Mulakaluri and Dr. Emily Wolbers, ND are hosting a free live Zoom session on the healing relationship between gut health and hormones.

They will cover how the gut affects the way your body processes and clears hormones, what changes across the fertile years into perimenopause and menopause, and what you can actually do about it - with real clinical stories and practical takeaways.

This class is free. Register here: https://forms.gle/eQ5uCVLZg4cwCrcc7

Zoom details will be sent closer to the date.

Is your brain feeling a little off lately? Not sick, just not quite yourself?

Dr. Stephanie Yang, ND shares five simple ways to support your brain health and cognitive performance:

- Move your body

Puget Sound Family Health will be closed this Friday, June 19 in observance of Juneteenth. We will resume normal business hours on Monday, June 22.

Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865, the day enslaved people in Texas were finally informed of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It is the longest running African American holiday in the country and was officially recognized as a federal holiday in 2021. We feel it is important to honor this day as a team and as a community.

Wishing you a safe and happy weekend.

Hello, I'm Aemelia! I am an intern from the Science and Math Institute here in Tacoma. I wanted to come here because I wanted to engage in the community and deepen my understanding of healthcare.

Interning at Puget Sound Family Health has been a wonderful experience, and I've learned so much. From the scheduling to the fact that so many things get done in one day. It was truly eye opening, and everyone around was so helpful and supportive.

Scroll through and see just what interns do here at the clinic!

We are so proud to have hosted Next Move interns for over 15 years. The students Tacoma Public Schools sends us are extraordinary. They walk in ready to work, ready to learn, and ready to give back to this community. Aemelia is proof of that. Thank you to the Next Move Internship Program and Tacoma Public Schools for continuing to invest in the next generation of healthcare heroes. We are honored to be part of the journey.
