My client came in with concerns about how oily their skin was. We addressed that by clarifying and hydrating the skin.

If your skin is truly oily, and your routine consists of exfoliants, foamy cleansers, and not moisturizing, start moisturizing!

Oil rich skin tends to lack hydration, in turn producing excess oil. You can start to balance this out by cleansing with a foamy cleanser that consists of a BHA to cleanse the pores, followed by water or gel based moisturizer. Simply adding hydration back into your routine will help reduce the amount of oil your skin is producing.

Don’t forget to add SPF in the daytime - as exfoliants and retinols increase photosensitivity, and UV exposure increases oil production.

Oil rich skin should lean more towards water based products, and refrain from using heavy creams/oils as this can clog pores.
