Sharing an opportunity for free ADHD Coaching!

There is a free ADHD coaching program for 15-16 year old students happening at the FSU Assessment, Learning, Evaluation, and Counseling (ALEC) Center as part of a dissertation project! The free coaching program is 8-weeks long. Students who participate will meet for 60-minute coaching sessions each week.

Our Superflex Superhero Academy starts in a few weeks and helps children in Grades K–5 build flexible thinking, emotional regulation, problem-solving, and social skills. Caregivers attend a parent group at the same time to learn strategies they can use at home. Groups are offered Tuesday or Thursday from 4:30–5:30 p.m. Families select the day that works best for them at registration pending availability. $100 registration fee covers the entire fall semester.

Just a few weeks until winter semester groups begin at the MDC!

This semester we will once again offer a Zones of Regulation group for children in kindergarten through fifth grade! This group helps children learn strategies to increase their self-control. Children who participate in this group will learn and practice identifying their emotions. They will also have the chance to learn and practice different strategies for regulating their emotions and behaviors.

Take a look at what our colleagues at FSU are hosting in January!

They will be offering free group counseling sessions for middle-school students (11-14 years) with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) who have been recently bullied. Their 12-session program focuses on building coping skills and strategies for handling challenging peer interactions at school.

Sessions will take place January-April 2026, either online on Mondays (6:00–7:00 p.m.) or in-person on Tuesdays (6:30–7:30 p.m.) in Tallahassee. While participants must be local to Tallahassee, FL to take part in the in-person group, participants for the online group can be from anywhere in the United States.

Check out what’s happening at the MDC in January!

For the first time, we’ll be offering a Preschool PEERS group for children who are 3 to 6 years old! This group helps young children learn important skills for play and making friends, such as sharing, turn-taking, joining in, being a good sport, and keeping their cool during playdates. It also includes a caregiver component, where caregivers can join in and learn how to coach their children to use these skills effectively during play. This group begins in just under a month. Limited spots are still available.

We are actively screening and enrolling for our spring semester groups at the MDC!

We have three group options for next semester:

• Preschool PEERS (ages 3–6) – Tuesdays, 4:30–6:00 PM
→ Focus on social skills, play, and friendship-building

• Zones of Regulation (K–5) – Thursdays, 4:30–5:30 PM
→ Focus on understanding and managing feelings

• Superflex (K–5) – Wednesdays, 4:30–5:30 PM
→ Focus on flexible thinking and problem-solving
