Knowing when to start expecting simultaneous productions from your suspected CAS child is tricky.

You have to establish rapport..and trust.

I’m still incorporating my low tech communication page, but I’m relying less on it and slowly moving toward expecting more out of him verbally while giving him BREAKS using the pictures and toy.

It’s so rewarding and difficult at the same time but these kids have soooo much potential!

Getting a SUSPECTED CAS kid to be able to participate in DTTC therapy is tricky.

There’s trial and error

You have to build trust

Because our goal is that they can ATTEND TO OUR FACE and follow directions.

I am still using my low tech picture page here but I’m slowly moving more towards attention to my face while still making his job the least taxing possible!

It’s hard but SOO rewarding!

Prior to being able to use DTTC therapy with a child with Childhood Apraxia of Speech I have to have that child attention during activities-

This can be singing/movement/or pointing to the same object together like in this clip from Mr Potato Head this week.
Low tech device are great for this because they simply have a picture with no sound giving me (the therapist) autonomy over the specific words to target!

When I’m teaching a new word, my goal is accuracy not volume.

20-30 correct productions is always better then 50 or more incorrect productions. Think about it- incorrect productions=negative practice.

Make your goal to teach the word- sounds and meaning- then once they have that, shoot for volume!
