🌴☀️ Friday Funday + National Beach Day! 🌊🏖️

We brought a little bit of the beach to Azalea Gardens today! Our residents had a splash-tastic time celebrating National Beach Day by dipping our toes in the water, soaking up the sunshine, and enjoying plenty of smiles and laughter. 💦😊

And, of course, a few adventurous souls couldn’t resist walking through the rainbow sprinkler! 🌈💧

Nothing says Friday Funday quite like sunshine, water, laughter, and making wonderful memories together! ❤️

Apple Cinnamon Overnight Oats 🍎🌾

Warm, familiar, and wonderfully nourishing. Overnight oats are easy to prepare together the evening before, making them a lovely two-step activity that ends in a comforting, wholesome breakfast. Oats support heart health and sustained energy, and cinnamon has been linked to anti-inflammatory benefits. ✨

Ingredients
🌾 1 cup rolled oats
🥛 1 cup milk or unsweetened almond milk
🍎 1 apple, peeled and grated or finely diced
🍯 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup
🌿 1/2 tsp cinnamon
🌼 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
🌰 2 tbsp chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
🍎 Fresh apple slices to serve

Instructions
✅ Combine oats, milk, honey, cinnamon, and vanilla in a bowl or jar
✅ Stir in the grated or diced apple
✅ Cover and refrigerate overnight or for at least 4 hours
✅ In the morning, stir well and add a splash more milk if needed
✅ Top with fresh apple slices and chopped nuts if using
✅ Serve cold or gently warmed, whichever is preferred 🌿

Tonight’s dinner was a delicious taste of something special! 😋 Our residents enjoyed pork fried veggie rice topped with a perfectly cooked egg, served alongside a crispy egg roll. 🍳🥡

A flavorful, comforting meal that had everyone going back for seconds! ❤️

🎹 Some Memories Live Beyond Words… 💜

Today, we witnessed one of those beautiful moments that reminds us of the incredible power of music and emotional memory.

For many years, one of our residents was a church pianist. Today, she sat down at the piano and, almost as if no time had passed, began to play. The music that filled the room was beautiful and so was the moment. 🎶

For someone living with dementia, recent memories and learned information may become difficult to access, but emotional memories and deeply practiced skills can remain for a very long time. Music is often stored and experienced in parts of the brain that can remain accessible even as dementia progresses.

She may not remember every detail of her years as a church pianist, but her hands remembered. Her heart remembered. And for those few precious moments, she was right back where she belonged. ❤️

This is why we continue to meet our residents where they are, while honoring who they have always been.

Dementia may change the way someone remembers, but it does not erase the person they are. 💜🎹
