💡 Evidence matters. Experience matters too.
As healthcare professionals, we are trained to rely on evidence-based practice. Evidence helps us provide safe, effective, and ethical care.
But evidence is only PART of the story.
Families, caregivers, and our patients bring something equally valuable to the table: a lived experience. They know what works in their daily routines, what challenges exist beyond therapy, and what meaningful participation looks like in real life.
The best outcomes happen when we stop viewing evidence and experience as competing forces and start seeing them as partners.
💡 Research provides direction.
💡 Clinical expertise provides interpretation.
💡 Lived experience provides insight.
When we listen to families and honor their expertise, we create interventions/strategies that are not only evidence-based but also realistic, meaningful, and sustainable.
