Autoimmune disease is not random.

Research from Dr. Alessio Fasano at Harvard shows three things must be present for it to develop: a genetic predisposition, an environmental trigger, and a permeable gut. Genes load the gun. Environment and the gut pull the trigger.

Here is why that matters for Hashimoto's. You cannot change your genes, but the triggers can be removed and the gut can heal. When they are, the autoimmune attack can slow, quiet, or in some cases go into remission.

That is the door root-cause care opens, and the one a prescription alone does not.

Elevated antibodies. No plan. That is not care.

If your thyroid antibodies have been elevated for years and you were told there is nothing to do until your TSH drops, please hear this. Elevated antibodies mean your immune system is attacking your thyroid right now, and every year it goes unaddressed is more permanent damage.

The gap before your TSH falls is not empty space. It is the window where root-cause treatment can change the course of the disease. If someone told you to wait, they gave you a follow-up appointment, not care.

You deserve a plan for those antibodies now.

New on YouTube today.

You have a Hashimoto's diagnosis and a prescription. Or you have been told your antibodies are elevated but there is nothing to do until your TSH drops enough to treat. And every visit ends the same way: labs are stable, stay on the medication, recheck in six months.
Nobody has asked why your immune system is attacking your thyroid. This week I walk through what Hashimoto's actually is, and what a root-cause evaluation looks like.

A sweet friend and patient sent this to me.

It made me laugh but unfortunately it is true.

Normal labs don't mean all is well. As a clinican it means I need to listen to my patient and investigate what is going on.

If you have been told your cortisol is “fine,” read this.

A standard visit checks cortisol once, in the morning. That rules out adrenal failure, Addison's disease, and nothing else. It says nothing about your daily rhythm, which is where adrenal dysfunction actually lives.

The right test maps cortisol at four points across the day: waking, midmorning, afternoon, and bedtime. Most midlife women have never been offered it.

If your cortisol has only ever been checked once, you do not know your cortisol status. You only know you do not have Addison's disease.

Wired but tired has a name, and it is measurable.

You are exhausted by mid-afternoon and cannot function without caffeine. You cannot fall asleep even though your body is spent. You crave sugar and salt. You get dizzy when you stand. A hard week that used to take a day to recover from now takes weeks.

If two or three of those sound like you, this is not who you are. It is what your body is doing. And it can be measured.

You are not lazy. You are not just getting old.

New on YouTube today.

You wake up exhausted and run on caffeine. You crash by mid-afternoon, then get a second wind at 10 PM that keeps you scrolling. You crave sugar and salt. A hard week that used to take a day to bounce back from now takes a month.

You have been told to reduce your stress. You have been offered an antidepressant. You have been told your cortisol is fine. What if it is not?

This week I walk through what adrenal dysfunction actually is, and the four-point test most women are never offered.

Happy 250th birthday, America.

Two and a half centuries of service, sacrifice, and the steady work of building something worth keeping. To the men and women who have served and sacrificed across every generation, thank you. To the families who have carried the cost of that service, I see you.

To the country that has given me the privilege to serve, and to build a life and a practice in freedom, thank you.

May we continue to be a nation worth the sacrifice. 🇺🇸

I thank the Lord for blessing me with another year of life, to do His will. I am most grateful.

Another year to utilize the talents and skills He has given me. To listen to women who have been dismissed too many times. To tell the truth with kindness. To keep building the kind of practice I wish had existed when I was the patient nobody could figure out.

To my husband, my family, my patients, and the women who have trusted me with the most vulnerable parts of their stories. Thank you.

You can eat the right amount of food and still gain weight.

When cortisol stays elevated, it drives insulin resistance and storage around the middle. Insulin decides whether the body burns fat or stores it. When it is chronically high, the body defaults to storage mode, and weight loss gets harder at the same intake.

That is the answer a lot of women have carried for years. Not willpower. Chemistry nobody evaluated.
