What would I do without my trusty whiteboard?

Somatic Processing sessions begin with a little Cognitive Scaffolding to make sure that not only WE are on the same page, but also your thinking-planning brain has enough questions answered. That might read…security, safety, ready to proceed.

English is not the language of your body.

We intend and invite the body to “speak”…then notice.

Your body is designed quite…perfectly! The systems are in place. The feedback loops are operational. Everything you feel might simply be information.

Many of us have been trained to operate from “I should” or “Relax” or “I’m fine” or “Be quiet”. The thinking mind is trying to control the body. You might be familiar with the Mind-Body Connection.

What if you spent a little time with the Body-Mind Connection?

They are bridges, really. Your system is designed (like all bridges) assuming the two sides want or need to be connected, and (in this case) information can go both ways.

How does YOUR body speak?

Keep noticing.

Someone just commented that they’d like to look a little more…beautiful, normal, pretty…while on vacation.

There is a part of me that is quite unrecognizable (to myself) in this photo. I’m better looking, I hope. I’m younger, I think.

But the smile and happiness is all me. As is the flat hair and the lack of make-up. And the wrinkles and whatever.

And this is what a week of happy active travel looks like.

What does “a place to practice” actually look like?

Inside the Somatic Processing Framework™ Labs, we begin with some cognitive scaffolding — a little information and context, enough to give us something to explore.

And then we experience.

Through Sensing Experiences, we become curious about what is actually happening — sensation, movement, breath, impulse, emotion.

We notice what occurred. We put words to the experience. There’s time to say it aloud and hear ourselves say it — an important part of body-mind integration.

And then we experience again.

The Labs are experiential by design. This isn’t about learning another set of instructions for what your body should do. It’s about developing greater fluency with the information already present in your lived experience.

The Framework gives us orientation.
The Labs give us a place to practice.
The next Somatic Processing Framework™ Labs begin October 5 & 6, with morning and evening options.

Today I had the joy of walking with folks who like to take photos and also offered to take photos of me…which is something I don’t have many of!!

The sights were varied and gorgeous, as was the terrain today. Exactly what I liked in a Camino day! Relatively short walk on and a (very) early check-in with laundry! Next up…Cerveza and snacks…

We’re very good at looking for instructions.

What should I do?
What’s the right technique?
What’s the next step?

But The Somatic Processing Framework™ isn’t another set of instructions.

It offers an orientation — a way of becoming curious about the information already present in the body and developing greater fluency with what we notice.

That distinction matters.

Because the goal isn’t to get the body to do something.

It’s to become more able to recognize, stay with, and work with the information our lived experience is already giving us.

The Framework gives us orientation.
The Labs give us a place to practice.

That’s why I created the Labs: a live, experiential space where inquiry becomes practice.

Knowing isn’t the same as changing.

Most of us have had the experience of knowing something and wondering why that knowledge hasn’t changed anything.

We know what we should do.
We understand the pattern.
We may even know where it came from and what would probably help.

And yet, there we are — doing the same thing again.

Because insight and change aren’t the same process.

Cognitive understanding matters. It can give us context, language, and direction.

But our lived experience is also physiological.

Change can ask us to become curious about what is happening in the body — the sensations, impulses, responses, and information that may be present before we’ve made cognitive sense of any of it.

Instead of only asking:

“Why am I still doing this when I know better?”

What happens if we also ask:

“What information might my body be giving me right now?”

Knowing can give us direction.
Experience gives us something to work with.

That’s where practice begins.

This is what we explore in The Somatic Processing Framework™ — and what we practice together in the Labs.

Stay curious. Keep noticing.

Tomorrow we begin.

Over the past few weeks, I've been introducing The Somatic Processing Framework™ and asking a question:

What if change isn't about knowing one more thing?

In this free live webinar, we'll explore what can happen when we stop relying solely on what we understand intellectually and begin noticing the information coming from the body.

If you've been curious about what I've been sharing, come experience it with me.

Over the past few weeks, I've been introducing The Somatic Processing Framework™ and talking about what can happen when we begin listening differently to the information coming from the body.

But the framework was never meant to be something you simply understand intellectually.

It was designed to be experienced.

That's why I created the SPF Labs.

Labs are live, 10-week experiential spaces where we take some of the ideas in the framework and begin exploring them in real time.

There's some Cognitive Scaffolding -- enough information to give your thinking brain some orientation.

And then we experiment.

With sensation. Movement. Emotion. Stillness. Chemistry.

Not to produce a particular response. Not to decided what your body SHOULD be doing.

But to become increasingly curious about what YOUR OWN SYSTEM is communicating and how it organizes, responds, protects, adapts, and changes.

The Lab is where the Framework becomes an experience.

I'll be sharing more about The Somatic Processing Framework™ Labs over the next few weeks.

You've heard me talk about "noticing".

About the difference between knowing something intellectually and actually experiencing the change.

About the ways our bodies communicate before our thinking minds have made sense of what's happening.

Now I'd like to show you what I mean.

I'm hosting a free live webinar September 14 or 15 introducing The Somatic Processing Framework™.

We'll explore how the body senses, processes, and communicates -- and why learning to recognize that information can change the way we respond to ourselves and our experiences.

And this won't just be something to listen to.

You'll have an opportunity to experience some of the framework for yourself.
