Summer visitor storage check
Hosting children or grandchildren this summer? Add a 60-second firearm-storage check to your preparation list.
Before visitors arrive:
✓ Confirm every firearm is secured
✓ Make sure children cannot access keys or combinations
✓ Secure ammunition separately as an added precaution
✓ Check purses, bags, nightstands, vehicles, and other “temporary” storage spots
✓ Make sure every responsible adult understands the storage plan
Florida law requires a loaded firearm to be secured when the owner knows—or reasonably should know—that a child under 16 is likely to gain access without permission or proper supervision.
Safe storage is not about judging responsible gun owners. It is about preventing one curious moment from becoming a tragedy.

Permitless carry is not ruleless carry
Florida is a permitless-carry state—but “no permit required” does not mean “no rules.”
A person carrying concealed without a license must still satisfy Florida’s eligibility requirements. They must also carry valid identification and follow the same restricted-location rules that apply to licensed carriers.
The license may be optional for some people. Safe handling, good judgment, secure storage, and knowing the law are not.
Before carrying, make sure your information comes from an official source—not a social media comment, something a friend remembers, or a video made several years ago.

Florida license update for younger adults
Tampa Bay families with young adults: Florida’s concealed weapon license rules recently changed.
On June 17, 2026, a Florida appellate court ruled that the law preventing otherwise eligible adults ages 18–20 from receiving a Florida concealed weapon license was unconstitutional.
As of July 14, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services says it is accepting applications from eligible applicants age 18 and older. The department says licenses will be issued to qualified applicants once the court’s mandate is issued.
What has not changed: applicants must still satisfy the other eligibility requirements, understand where carrying is prohibited, and take firearm ownership seriously.
For parents of young adults, this is a good time for a calm conversation about safe storage, responsible handling, and proper instruction before anyone decides to carry.
