As a pediatric OT and feeding therapist, I help parents navigate this daily battle.

Consistency. Frequency. Opportunity.

👉THIS is how you help your child learn about new foods.
It isn’t easy but these are key factors in your child’s journey of becoming a curious eater.

For families with kids that aren’t trying new foods, becoming even more limited, and outright refusing
to eat; it can feel overwhelming.

Lets get back to the basics of a positive mealtime:
1️⃣Variety allows them to explore without the pressure and can build curiosity.
2️⃣Use the window of time away from the table to have a novel opportunity with the food.
3️⃣Serve 1 familiar and preferred food. Your child needs to see something they like to feel like joining
the table.

At Everyday Progress we support the whole family. That includes siblings and other family members
in the household. It is important that all caregivers are aware and understand the meaning behind the strategies. This allows for faster progress for the whole family. Consistency is key.

It can feel exhausting with non-stop requests for snacks while you are trying to make dinner!

This is a strategy that I recommend as a pediatric OT and feeding therapist. Simple and familiar foods with reasonable portions.

👍This is used when the parent wants to offer some food prior to a meal that will not completely tank their appetite.

Snacks at our house are simple. I simply rinsed these grapes and peppers and served it in the colander.

Did I get push back? Sure did.

There were multiple requests for other foods with claims that they don’t like grapes or peppers.
Backstory: my kids eat these foods regularly.

🚫This is not a strategy I would use to support a child exploring a food or trying to learn about a new
food. A food they recognize and enjoy will always be an option when eating. In this particular case
she was expressing preference for other foods.

Being that dinner was an hour from being finished, I served this. Familiar foods that would not fill them up so that enough appetite would be present at dinner.

✨️Setting up predictable mealtime routines is one of the first ways that we support families at Everyday Progress. This is helpful for the parents and the child. Knowing what to expect can reduce the uneasiness of when food will be available.✨️

If you are tired of constant requests for snacks before dinner and then they don’t even eat the dinner, send us a DM to have a free consultation to learn how OT can help create peace around mealtimes.

Happy First Day of Fall, parents! 🍂

Let’s be completely honest for a second—how are we really holding up after this back-to-school
transition?

Shifting from summer schedules back to early mornings, packed lunches, and a million moving parts
is no easy feat. If you felt a wave of relief this morning, or if you found yourself taking a deep breath
in your parked car after drop-off (or both!), we are right there with you. Transitions take a heavy toll
on kids' nervous systems, but they are exhausting for us, too.

We are all in this messy, beautiful transition together.

Drop a comment below and let’s support each other: What is your most successful coping strategy
or sanity-saver for getting through this tricky time? ☕️

✨ At Everyday Progress, we love supporting families as they navigate new routines and seasonal
shifts. Providing in-home occupational therapy, we help create tailored strategies that fit your actual
daily life.
