A covert narcissist does not always destroy your confidence with obvious rage, screaming, or public humiliation.
Sometimes the damage happens quietly.
You share your feelings—and get punished.
You express an opinion—and get mocked.
You disagree—and get criticized, ignored, or made to feel foolish.
You try to explain yourself—and somehow end up apologizing.
So eventually, you learn to stay quiet.
You stop sharing what you think.
You stop trusting what you feel.
You stop speaking up for yourself.
You become smaller and smaller while the covert narcissist becomes more controlling and powerful.
And here is the trap:
You may believe that shrinking yourself will finally keep the peace.
It will not.
A narcissist who thrives on control will still find reasons to create conflict, criticize you, or make you feel like you are never enough.
All your silence does is make you more invisible, more codependent, and potentially more deeply connected through a trauma bond.
You were not created to disappear inside your own marriage.
Start paying attention to the pattern. Start rebuilding your voice. Start remembering who you were before you learned that speaking up came with consequences.
Freedom begins when you stop shrinking yourself to make the narcissist comfortable.
