Via We Skoolhouse and is explained so well by them.

"This image comes from an MRI study of preschoolers (Hutton et al., JAMA Pediatrics, 2020). It shows how screen use is linked to the wiring of the developing brain.

The top row (blue) highlights where more screen time is tied to weaker white matter organization. White matter is the brain’s wiring system that connects regions so they can work efficiently.

The bottom row (red) shows where heavier screen use is linked to weaker insulation on those connections. Insulation, or myelin, helps brain signals travel quickly, like the protective coating on an electrical wire.

Why does this matter? These highlighted areas include pathways for language, early literacy, and self-regulation. Children with higher screen scores also performed lower on language and literacy tests.
This is not a before and after of one child. It is a group-level finding. The message is clear. In the early years the brain is wiring for life. The more time children spend with people, play, movement, and books, the stronger these foundational circuits become."

Many people think that tantrums and meltdowns are the same thing and that only kids have them. These behaviors can look similar when they’re happening. But a meltdown is very different from a tantrum. And some people have outbursts even as teens or adults.

Knowing the differences between tantrums and meltdowns can help you learn how to respond in a helpful way.

Today, 25 years ago, I opened the doors to Children’s Choice for Therapy! ❤️ I can still vividly recall the red ribbon I had stretched across the threshold that my first client and I cut together!! I had a vision of what I wanted to achieve and when I look back at the journey and where I am today, I am extremely proud of my accomplishments! I have been fortunate to work alongside talented therapists that have made a significant impact as well as my office manager, Rhonda, who has been with me since the beginning in one capacity or another! Lastly, I would like to extend my gratitude to the families who have entrusted us with their children over the past 25 years, and I hope that we have made a lasting impact on their lives! ❤️

Today is World Autism Awareness Day and “blue” is the color to be wearing! 💙 🧩 Yesterday was the first day of Autism Awareness month and Children’s Choice for Therapy sponsored a table at the 2nd Annual Florida Autism Center of Excellence (FACE) Luncheon held at the Centre Club. FACE is a non profit charter school in Hillsborough County! We were fortunate to have, Tyler, from Love on The Spectrum, and his father seated at our table! Speaking to Tyler and his dad about their journey and his time on the Netflix show was an amazing experience for us as therapists! 💙🧩💙🧩

Motor Planning happens with everything we do! From walking around objects in our path, to picking up items, to aiming and throwing, drawing, writing, getting dressed, and even throwing and catching a ball...

Motor Planning refers to the physical (motor) problem solving (plan) required to:
👜move the body over/under/around objects
🤾‍♂️manipulate/carry/hold items,
🧠organize a physical plan of action
🦵carryout a motor task

Motor planning requires integration of fine motor and gross motor skills, sensory input, reflexes (and other contributions). 📈Essentially, we must organize incoming information, outside environmental information, and integrate that information into our plan to physically accomplish a task or movement.
